“Plants do not speak, but their silence is alive with change.”
-May Sarton

Piranha Plant, the carnivorous flora of the Koopa Troop.

Chomper, Crazy Dave’s frontline zombie muncher.

Every leader of war is only as good as their soldiers, and a great commander’s warriors are often none to scoff at. Even if their main method of attack is… Devouring you whole… These two flytraps do their very best in every aspect of combat.

Before We Begin...

All variants of Piranha Plant and Chomper will be considered for this blog, anything in the main Mario & PvZ game canons will count. No crossover media like Smash Bros. will be considered in the verdict. We’ll be covering these characters in two different ways. One as an army fight between all the variants, and another with a one-on-one composite fight between the two. The plants that are their own characters such as Petey Piranha and Chompzilla will also be considered, but won’t be analyzed in the one-on-one composite scenario. Which means that this blog may have two different winners, as a 1-on-1 composite is how this matchup is typically analyzed in the community, but a full-on army fight plays better to the "army" nature of both Bower's troop and Dave's plants. Sound good? Ready… Set… PLANT!

Background

Piranha Plant

"Grawr Charble Grawr!"

As the Goombas of Bowser’s Koopa Troop walk the overworld left and right, and the Buzzy Beetles crawl in the undergrounds in the gloom of the darkness, there exists a boatman between these two grounds. One that traverses both the above-ground and the underworld… The Piranha Plant! A sentient garden-variety weed employed with chomping down hard on any plumber it sees. This sharp shrub has been taking the lives of gamers since Mario’s very first adventure, and its been evolving ever since. Versions of this baddie go from as simple as ones that spray fire from their throats, to as complex as ones that sprout from puddles of pure goop eventually evaporating from water. It seems every climate has their own version of the serrated vinewhipper. That’s not even mentioning the more important members of this part of Bower’s syndicate. Take Petey Piranha, for example. A large, bipedal, giant of a plant that can even fly with its leaves like wings. Or perhaps Naval Piranha. An artificially enhanced member of the species that lurks in water, using its vines as writhing tentacles. They’re a fearsome addition to Bowser’s team, being nothing if not versatile.

Chomper

"A free buffet? How kind! Don't mind if I do!"

As the zombies walked the plains of Neighborville, one lone man and his neighbor were having trouble defending their home from the ongoing attacks of zombies. Dave created the likes of sprouting peashooters, mushroom bombs, melon catapults, and the list goes on. But none are as straightforward and cool as the Chomper. The way it attacks is simple. It chomps. What more do you need? Destroying most zombies in a single bite, the Chomper is one of Crazy Dave's most useful plants. While it often remained close to the front of the line, the Chomper soon realized branching its strategies out might not be a bad idea. So the Chomper evolved to suck in oncoming enemies to gulp multiple at once, dug into the grounds to get the jump on opponents, and spitting poison onto others that can evaporate their skin. It was along this process of evolution that the Chomper then developed into various subspecies. Typical for your average living thing, but Chomper's evolutions are completely different than what you'd expect. From one that fused with a disco ball, to another that has a built-in car hot rod inside of it, to one that is biologically part Cheeto!? It's unclear what the hell Crazy Dave is feeding these things, but whatever it is it's working. The Chomper, despite its obvious weirdnesses, is one of the most powerful parts of the army of plants against Dr. Zomboss's terrible attacks.

 Variants

Piranha Plant

Piranha Plant

You all know them, it’s the classic Piranha Plant. Nothing too special about the original variety, but they’re the building blocks that every single plant pulls from regardless. Some of them are found out of pipes, pots, or even straight out of the ground.

Big Piranha Plant

Piranha Plants, but big (What a way to start) in typical Mario Fashion the bigger the enemy the more attacks it’ll take to take out taking at least two jumps within Mario 3D World to take out, and being shown several times in other Mario Games.

Venus Fire Trap

Think these plants are too one note by always chomping upwards? Never fear! These not Fire Flower aim their trajectory at you to shoot fireballs out of their mouths! And are sometimes also black with orange spots on them.

Frost Piranha Plant

Sometimes blue in Color (I believe?) These plants can shoot ice out of their mouths in the same way the Ice Flower, which can freeze enemies completely solid for a few seconds.

Inky Piranha Plants

On the slightly more Unique side these obscure Piranha Plants can spurt Ink out of their mouths which can also obstruct your view much like the Blooper.

Bone Piranha Plant

How tf does a plant have a skeleton?-

Anyway these creepy carnivores are undead versions of the typical Piranha Plant much like the Dry Bones are for Koopas.

Poison Piranha Plant

Much like real life plants these things can be poisonous, and it’d be that simple except these things can somehow spurt out blobs of poisons much like the Inky Piranha Plant that creates puddles on the ground that hurt when you touch them.

Gold Piranha Plant

Pretty much just a normal Piranha Plant, but after a fight with these guys you get paid a little.

Bungee Piranha Plant

These plants hang from ceilings and stretch down to quickly attack foes much like how spiders catch prey in real life.

Ptooie

These Piranha Plants blow up spiky balls that can catch a foe off guard when they're trying to jump over them.

Piranha Pods

What this appears to be is a sort of seed that Lakitu can sometimes throw in replacement of a Spiny that roots into the ground and comes up as a new Piranha Plant.

Elasto-Piranha

Piranha Plant of the Week on X: "This week's Piranha Plant is the Elasto- Piranha. These are capable of stretching its neck and shooting fireballs. They can also defend themselves by hiding inside

These sub-species of Piranha Plants have elastic stems that cause them to be able to extend and contract.

Melon Piranha Plant

These Plants can spit out Watermelon seeds similar to the Ukiki’s from the Yoshi’s Island Games, these can hurt but these can also be jumped off of.

Jumping Piranha Plants

These Piranha Plants debut back to the Super Mario World days instead of just blindly reaching out of the Pipe usually out of reach to get you these guys will instead leap out of the pipe, pretty useful for the extra range.

Piranha Sprout

Or

(Don’t know why there’s two different versions of the plant with the same name lol).

The first one which comes from Captain Toad’s Treasure Tracker can spit out seeds that can explode but can be defeated in typical Mario Radish style of being rooted and thrown.

The second one which comes from Yoshi’s Story can walk and also has another variation in Piranha Pest.

Ghost Piranha

Also sometimes referred to as Polterpiranhas this variation of the plant seems to be a spirit version of the Piranha Plant similar to the Boo’s which includes flight and being a ghost, likely intangibility.

Piranhabon

Sometimes referred to as Goros, they are large piranhas covered in goop, as they roll around leaving trails of goop on the ground, much like most enemies in Mario Sunshine their bodies dissolve into goop when submerged in Water.

(Did you know their names come from the name of chocolate balls known as bonbons? Me neither, well the more you know.)

Proto Piranha

Throughout Delfino Plaza while the place is completely covered in goop you can expect these guys to occasionally emerge from it and occasionally can hold Shine Sprites inside themselves, being made of goop they are of course all weak to water and enough of it can cause them to dissipate.

Piranha Planet

While these guys aren’t actually planets, more like floating pipe balls, they’re individual enemies that come equipped with space gear.

Putrid Piranha

A yellow Piranha Plant from the Paper Mario games that can poison you with its breath and its bite.

Raving Piranha Plant

HE’S GOT THAT NEON DRIP BABY!!!

Trottin’ Piranha Plant

10/10 Singing unironically.

Wonder Piranha

These large guys guard level and world gateways, and take a specific amount of wonder seeds to turn back into normal piranhas.

Glohm Piranha

These Piranhas are afflicted with Glohm, and consistently counter attacks thrown at them.

Piranha Bean

This bean version of the plant, found only in the Beanbean Kingdom, can shoot fire from its head and violently throw up a mini version of Peasley from its mouth. For some reason.

Stalking Piranha Plant

These guys have the ability to stretch their bodies at will, to seemingly endless lengths.

Chewy

Attacking with flame moves, these small versions of the plant can put people to sleep. They also tend to hide in chests, becoming Whuhohs

Piranha Creepers

These are elongated plants that can also survive being engulfed in poison.

Pit Plant

It hides in big mounds in the desert, awaiting someone to fall in.

Prickly Piranha Plant

A spikier version of the plant that can’t be jumped on. This is also Plant’s side smash attack.

Piranha Plorps

Found in Bowser’s head, they spit out poison and fog up the bottom screen. With blood perhaps...

Nipper

Hatched when Nipper Spores touch the ground, these are baby forms that hop around endlessly

Muncher

Essentially the same as the nippers, but they stay in place and are often found in groups.

Vine

Really just a vine. Doesn’t even attack Mario.

Chomper

Like all plant and zombie classes in Garden Warfare, Chomper has a selection of variants that have a mix of different primary abilities, health pools and even different weapons, while they share the same abilities. We’ll be going into more depth with these versions, as we know more info about them compared to Plant’s.

With the exception of Chomp Thing all of these chomper variants have the same 3 upgrades despite these upgrades having different names, the upgrades effects are:

An increased health boost of 25

Increased movement

And increased digestion rate of zombies

Chomper variants come in two types: spray chompers and chomp chompers. Chomp chompers have their primary attack be a close ranged chomp. While spray Chompers will spray out a burst of…something? This spray will deal damage over time and can deal quite a lot of damage. Spray chompers are still capable of chomping enemies from behind or those trapped in spikeweeds.

Chomper

The OG Chomper. Versions of these guys are found throughout Crazy Dave’s garden and just like Plant, are the building blocks for every Chomper that comes after it.

Chomper is one of the 4 primary classes originally introduced in the first Garden Warfare game. Chomper is a melee class with 150 Health, though a max of 175 is possible through upgrades. Like all other classes chomper has a primary weapon, 3 primary abilities, alternate variants and upgrades.

Like all classes upon being vanquished, chomper will simply resprout back up in the spawn point. In Garden Warfare after 5 seconds of not taking damage or using abilities health regeneration will start. Health will recover at 5 health a second but caps at half of your max health.

Chompers primary weapon is the chomp: Chomp deals 25 damage and is a close ranged biting attack. In Garden Warfare specifically it can bypass improvised armor zombies can use. If a Chomper uses chomp an enemy from behind this will instantly vanquish the zombie. It's worth noting that this does not work on larger targets like Gargantuars.

Chomper once again returns as a playable character in the third shooter Battle for Neighborville. Chomper, like most plants, had some slight changes made to her. Chompers like the rest of their plant friends can now run instead of leisurely strolling. She also gains a new ranged spit attack called slobber shot that while slow can do solid damage at long ranges.

Hot Rod Chomper

The best Chomper in a Meta sense, this motorized muncher has the unique ability of gaining a temporary speed boost whenever it eats something whole. Hot rod chomper is the sneakiest glass cannon of the chompers. Hot Rod only has a 100 health, but in exchange is the faster chomper. Hot rod’s gimmick is that it gets a significant speed boost after swallowing and digesting a zombie. Hot rod is a chomp chomper.

Toxic Chomper

While most Chomper’s tend to bite their foes, some of them like to spray some kind of elemental like breath out their mouths and this intoxicated Chomper in particular sprays what would you guess? Poison that can damage a foe overtime. It also means just being near enemies will cause them to take poison damage through his raw aura. Toxic chomper doesn't do much damage but its primary attack the toxic spray inflicts the toxic status, acting like a poison that deals damage over time. This damage can also spread to other nearby zombies, and being near Toxic chomper even if it doesn't attack also inflicts the status. Toxic chomper has a 150 health and is a spray chomper

Fire Chomper

Similar case as before expect it breathes fire which can inflict a burn status on enemies which also deals temporary damage overtime. Similarly to Toxic chomper Fire chomper is a spray based chomper that can inflict the burn status. Burn cannot spread to other targets but deals more damage over time. Fire chomper has a 150 health and is a spray chomper.

Power Chomper

This Chomper breathes electricity as illogical as that is the electricity status means whenever its being used if there are enemies slightly close to the opponent the spray is being used on it’ll also link to them in that very short range causing damages to others around it as well. Power chomper’s primary weapon the electric spray does not inflict any status conditions but the damage will arc to other close by targets. Power chomper has 150 health and is a spray chomper.

Count Chompula

This Adam Sandler wannabe has a unique ability where if it swallows an enemy whole it can regenerate a good amount of health back to itself. After swallowing and digesting a zombie count chompula will recover 50 health. Count chompula has 150 health and is a chomp chomper.

Armor Chomper

A metal plated Chomper that sacrifices Speed and agility for health and defense, so yeah not exactly what the Chomper needed but sure. Armor chomper decides to exchange its speed for pure bulk and defence. Not only is Armor chomper bulkier but he also deals increased damage compared to other chomp style chompers. In exchange for his increased health and damage, armor chomper is noticeably slower than other chompers. Armor chomper has 200 health and is a chomp Chomper.

Chomp Thing

Going back to spray Chompers, this one doesn’t really have anything special to it aside from its swamp themed texture, but the one thing unique is that it can regenerate health quicker then other Chompers. Chomp thing is a spray based chomper that deals the most raw damage of any spray based chomper. Not only this but Chomp Thing is the only chomper that breaks the traditional mold of Chomper upgrades. Chomp Thing gets a speed boost, a digestion boost and a damage boost for its primary attack. Chomp Thing’s primary ability is that its health regeneration starts sooner than other plants. Chomp thing has 100 health and is a spray based Chomper.

This Chomper is so powerful that it contained the legendary Toxic Brainz inside its stomach which is a feat in itself if you ask me lol.

Yeti Chomper

This arctic-themed Chomper had a unique ability from any other Chomper’s where it has the ability to shoot snowballs from its mouth at a decent range being the only real Chomper with a good consistent ranged option, these snowballs can also inflict the freeze status which slows you down passively and with enough uses on a foe can cause them to be completely frozen for a couple of seconds. Yeti chomper is a unique chomper because she isn't a spray or a chomp chomper. Yeti chomper has a unique icicle spit attack that attacks at short to midrange, Not only this but the attack has splash damage and can even freeze zombies in place. She’s still capable of chomping on zombies from behind or that are trapped in spikeweeds.

Disco Chomper

Disco Chomper appreciation post : r/PvZGardenWarfare

The Funkiest Chomper there is, this Chomper is a Legendary variant within Garden Warfare 2 and as much had a Legendary meter that can be filled up whenever something is achieved but unlike most Legendaries who usually having to kill opponents in order to fill up the meter Disco Chomper had to specifically swallow them in order to fill up the meter which kinda makes his status as a Legendary more questionable in my eyes but hey once the meter is filled it’ll activate a mode called Disco Fever which gives him a speed and attack boost that last for 30 seconds and also plays some of the grooviest music you’ll ever listen to. Disco chomper is the life of the party and is capable of building up a unique disco time meter by swallowing and digesting zombies. After swallowing and digestion 4 targets for the next 30 seconds disco chomper has increased speed and damage. Disco chomper has a 175 health and is a chomp chomper.

Unicorn Chomper

This magical Chomper at first could only be unlocked by one of the stupidest methods I think I’ve ever seen in a video game, specifically it was by importing a players rank from the first Garden Warfare game to the sequel and if you got to rank 313 which was Max rank you can unlock it. Now since EA was the one who made this game they eventually changed it to where you can now pay to get it. Anyways this Chomper as well as the next one does have a unique trait about it, to where instead of being able to Burrow it can warp forward twice slightly short distances. Unicorn chomper is a bog standard chomper with 175 health and a basic chomp attack, its unique benefit is access to the rainbow warp as a potential third ability. Though it can still use Burrow.

Twilight Chomper

The last character they added to GW2 for whatever reason this one is basically the same as the Unicorn Chomper only with a different design and instead of being able to warp once this one can do one longer warp compared to the Unicorn Chomper. Twilight chomper is similar to unicorn chomper in that at first glance it appears much like any other chomper. He has 150 health and chomps much like any other chomp chomper. Twilight chompers' unique benefit is access to the twilight warp ability. Though it's still capable of using Burrow.

Chester Chomper

In the first Garden Warfare Game they did a fun little DLC event with Cheetos where people in the US would have to look for specially marked brands of Cheetos exclusively at Target and were able to redeem a code online to enable them to access this DLC and this would allow this Chomper as well a variant for the Scientist, Dr. Chester to be unlockable in special Cheetos related packs, though they were put in for sale later for free. Chester is a pretty simple chomper, frailer than other chompers but just as mobile and powerful in close range. Chesters unique ability is his ability to swallow and digest zombies faster than other chompers can. Chester has 125 health and is a chomp based chomper.

Fun trivia notes aside this Chomper has slightly less health then the Default Chomper but makes up for having a slightly faster digestion time of about 3 seconds as opposed to 5 seconds. And also has Cheeto themed versions of the Chomper’s default abilities if that helps.

Super Chomper

This Premium plant has the unique ability to eat all of the zombies that are on the lane in front of it at once while still having the same digestion time as the default Chomper. Regular Chompers can also become this form by drinking Lactic Acid.

Three Headed Chomper

This Threepeater as a venus fly trap has the ability to attack and eat three targets at once at a decent range within its lane.

Snap Pea

Ever wonder what would happen when a Peashooter and a Chomper get close with one another? Well, you get this. It can eat zombies like normal, but then spit out its head as an enhanced projectile.

Garlic Chomper

Garlic Chomper - The Plants vs. Zombies Wiki, the free Plants vs. Zombies encyclopedia

Instead of focusing on eating the zombies, this guy takes a bite of a zombie to divert them into a different lane.

Spikeweed Chomper

Spikeweed Chomper - The Plants vs. Zombies Wiki, the free Plants vs. Zombies encyclopedia

This type attacks from the floor below and is immune to tire flattenings

Steel Chomper

Chomper’s Super Costume for PVZ2 China, this version can electrocute other zombies and eat multiple in a lane.

 Notable Members

Piranha Plant

Petey Piranha

Pretty much considered the leader of the piranha species, this big guy first got on Mario’s radar when he terrorized Delfino Plaza, getting his brown goop everywhere. He also has some kind of wind or flight powers, being able to trap air under his leaves and take off into the skies, and even fling tornadoes at his enemies. He can even occasionally spit out Dry Bones (horrifying implications aside), and he’s friends with King Boo. Also, we’ll be considering Petey and Paper Jam Petey to be the same guy.

Peewee Piranha

This Dino Piranha stands in Mario’s way protecting a star. He’s just a baby guy, and often lashes out once his egg is broken. His tail often leaves him open for attacks, but he makes up for it with his size.

Dino Piranha

Speaking of Dino Piranhas… When they grow up they start to look like this guy. Its tail is still pretty vulnerable, but gets even angrier now.

Fiery Dino Piranha

Same as the first Dino, but this one has control over the element of fire.

Naval Piranha

Brought to life by Bowser’s own Kamek, Naval Piranha’s weak spot is its naval, as it lurks in the water to attack Yoshi. It can be completely killed off before the boss even starts if you’re smart. Also somehow it’s intelligent enough to play Tetris Attack.

Big Bungee Piranha

Truthfully just a bigger Bungee variety. However it’s stronger and gets faster as it gets attacked.

Smilax

Named after the actual smilax plant, this three-headed variant can shoot fire, and transmute its foes into mushrooms with Petal Blast, as well as scarecrows with Scarecrow Dust. The smaller Smilax can also put you to sleep with Pollen Nap.

Mom Piranha

This piranha feels connected to her children in the ground, and also comes in the blue variety.

Petea Piranha

Petea Piranha - Super Mario Wiki, the Mario encyclopedia

It’s Petey but instead he’s made out of a tea packet. Yes this is a completely different character.

Spike the Piranha

Similarly to Naval, this is an enhanced piranha by Kamek to attack Yoshi. He shoots spike balls and guards the Dream Gem.

Chomper

Chompzilla

A Plant Hero, leader of the Mega-Grow and Solar classes. Just like any Chomper, she loves eating zombies and can even instantly kill one on the field at will. She’s great at generating sun for the rest of the battlefield, and has many cards to choose from in terms of planting other plants. Like all heroes in PVZ heroes, chomper has 20 health, the block meter and of course controls 2 of the 5 classes. Chompzilla controls the Solar and Mega Grow classes:

The solar class focuses on generating additional sun to play more expensive cards early as well as healing and strikethrough cards. Strikethrough cards hit enemy zombies and then hit the enemy hero.

The mega grow class loves buffing up cards to make them incredibly hard-hitting, mega grow cards also like hitting multiple times thanks to double strike and bonus attacks that let them attack multiple turns or before the battle phase begins.

Assistant Manager Bitey

If I was a dev, this is how I would make Assistant Manager Bite into a real chomper subclass : r/PvZGardenWarfare

Bitey runs his own pizza joint, and also has his prized jetpack attached to him at all times, allowing him to double jump. He’s a very fast plant that also attacks his enemies with high-speed slices of pizza he makes, making for a great support option among other things.

Chelsea

Not much is known about Chelsea, but she likes dressing up like a pirate and is just as willing to fight as any other Chomper out there. She is gender

Equipment

Piranha Plant

Pot

All Piranha Plants can hop inside of a pot to move around freely.

Tennis Racket

They just love to play tennis.

Ray Gun

This gun is used by the Piranha Planet, along with their seemingly other space gear.

Mario Kart Items

Since the Piranha Plant is going to be playable in Mario Kart World, naturally all the MKW items should be available to them. Also, Petey is playable in Double Dash, 8 Deluxe, and Tour, so he should get those, too.

They make you go slightly faster. And make you slightly richer.

The Dash Mushroom allows you to speed up your Kart and make shortcuts between corners. Comes in triple varieties.

Same as the normal Dash Mushroom, but this Golden one gives infinite speed boosts! For a limited time.

When the Banana Peel hits an enemy, they’re spun out of control and take a second to regain their composure. Comes in triple varieties.

Throw the Green Shell to snipe your opponent from a long way away. Comes in triple varieties.

The Red Shell homes in on opponents in addition to hitting them. Comes in triple varieties.

These Golden Shells leave a trail of coins before exploding.

The Blue Shell, actually called the Spiny Shell, rams into the person in 1st place, disrupting their position entirely. It’s also great if you’d like to end a friendship!

Send the Bob-omb flying to see your target explode into pieces. Comes in double varieties.

The Bullet Bill will grant the user a guaranteed position to the front of the race, blitzing everyone in their way.

With the Blooper, blind your foe with ink. Even if they can still probably see.

The Lightning Bolt shrinks everyone around you, giving you an edge in the race.

The classic Star makes you invincible, and nothing can stop you. Except ledges.

Send fireballs at your foe, igniting them with the Fire Flower.

The Boomerang Flower comes right back around to you to hit your target twice.

The potted Piranha Plant will take bites out of your targets while… While, uh… Isn’t this a bit awkward…?

Surprise others around you with the Super Horn! It also destroys Blue Shells.

The Crazy 8 gives one of every item to the user.

The Boos steal the items of a random enemy, and make you invisible, too!

Bowser’s Shell is huge and crashes through every kart in its way.

The Mega Shroom makes you humongous, crashing every kart over and over until you’re hit.

The Chain Chomp will drag you at high speeds demolishing anything or anyone in your pace while holding on to its chain leash.

The Yoshi Egg/Birdo Egg functions almost exactly like a Red Shell except when it makes contact with an enemy it drops three random items onto the field.

The Giant Banana acts as a roadblock for those on the field, unable to be maneuvered around easily.

When the Hearts swirl around your kart, any item that hits you becomes yours.

The Fake Item Box is used as a trap to anyone who runs into it thinking it’s just a good ol’ run of the mill Item Box until they make contact with it and take damage.

The Coin Box generates a large amount of coins in front of your kart for a set time.

Jump over items and walls with the Feather, and gain a speed boost when you land.

The Hammer allows you to send multiples of hammers raining down on foes, spinning them out.

Summons the one and only Kamek, turning opponents into random enemies, then summoning those enemies elsewhere.

Dash Food gives you a speed boost and might change your clothes, too.

Dr. Mario World Items & Skills

Both Piranha Plant and Petey Piranha got their medical licenses when a worldwide outbreak of viruses happened, inclining everyone in the Mushroom Kingdom to help out. In VS Mode, you can hide multiple Viruses (20 at max level) in the opponent's stage in clouds. VS Mode has players clear viruses in their grid to send viruses at their opponent's side. When players clear viruses, their attack meter fills, and when full it sends rows of viruses to their opponent. Players have chances to prevent opponents from sending viruses to them (the higher their doctor's defense stat is against a specific bomb, the more likely the attack will be defended against). If the player successfully eliminates all the viruses on their field, they will send three lines of viruses to the opponent that cannot be defended against while resetting their opponent's attack meter.

Plant’s stage mode effect grants a chance that two viruses will be eliminated at the start of the stage, though viruses that require multiple hits will not immediately be eliminated. Their versus mode effect grants a chance that all capsules will be eliminated if an object has reached the third row from the bottom line (this can only happen once per match after it is activated). Its skill in stage and versus mode eliminated objects randomly, manipulating the growing of pipes to do so.

Stage Items

  • Capsule +: Adds 5 extra capsules for players before starting the stage.

  • Skill Up: Fills up the skill meter before starting the stage.

  • Rainbow Start: Grants 3 full-sized Rainbow Capsules at the start of the stage.

  • Random! - For 200 coins, players can randomly receive one of a number of random bonuses during stage start.

  • Hammer - Hammers can eliminate any object on a single tile.

  • Capsule Swapper: Can make the player choose a matching color of the next capsule.

  • Skill filler - Skill fillers fill up the skill meter if tapped on while playing on a stage.

  • Boomerang: Can clear a selected row.

  • Capsule Blaster: Clears the stage of all capsules.

Stage Objects

  • Shell: Destroys objects to the right and left of them in that order, with the exception of empty blocks and not activating other shells.

  • Exploder: Destroys all objects surrounding them within a one-tile radius.

  • Skill Charger: When activated, the doctor's skill meters are filled by 60 points.

  • Brick Block: Matching next to Brick Blocks destroy them or reveal something hidden inside them.

  • Empty Block: Empty Blocks serve as indestructible obstacles. Any projectile (shells or cannonballs) can't bypass them.

  • Handy Box: Matching next to a handy box reveals a handy stage object.

Power Stars

One of the main magical artifacts of the Mario Universe these stars come in different shapes and sizes across the Mario canon from a sense of currency in Mario Party, or world ending stars of power in the Mario Galaxy Games and we know that the bosses like Dino Piranha and Peewee Piranha carry one of each, dropping them once their defeated so it should be fair to include.

List of the things Power Stars can do:

Chomper

Plant Food

Plant Food in PvZ 2 allows plants to display certain powerful attacks, usually just a stronger attack.

Tacos

Tacos are a delicious source of meat, cheese, vegetables, and an all-around healthy option when you wanna eat something. Oh, wait, that’s a real life taco. Tacos in PvZ 3 give Chomper a boost in her strength and activates her Tacobility.

Miscellaneous Boosts

Chomper and the rest of the plants use a variety of boosts and powers to help them out in combat.

  • Plant Perk - Increases Chomper’s range and damage.
  • ZombiFreeze - Immobilizes a Zombie for three seconds, leaving them unable to move and attack.
  • Gardening Gloves - Allow movement of normally rooted Plants.
  • Mega-Perk - Applies the Plant Perk’s effects to all Plants.
  • Zombie Zapper - Applies the ZombiFreeze’s effects to all Zombies.
  • Power Snow - Launches snowballs at an extreme speed to damage and slow Zombies.
  • Power Toss - Launches Zombies back, launching Zombies that are already being launched causes them to be launched even further, removing them from the battle.
  • Power Zap - Electrocutes Zombies.

Junkasaurus

Junkasaurus is a mechanical dinosaur any plant is capable of controlling and riding around in while entering the Gnomiverse to engage in infinity time or cats vs dinos.

Junkasaurus has 2000 health and doesn't passively regenerate health but by destroying zombies and gnomes vanquished foes drop time crystals which can be used to recover various types of health. Junkasaurus’s primary weapon is the super dino blast. A beam of energy that can be fired out at long ranges to deal damage to enemy targets. Junkasaurus has 4 primary abilities it can also call upon during combat for additional damage and mobility.

Charge of Insanity:

The Junkasaurus charges forward, tackling and running through foes in its way. It deals 600 damage and even sends foes flying away. It has a 15 second recharge.

Epic Mega Blast:

Epic Mega Blast has the Junkasaurus charge up and fire an even more powerful and damaging laser that can obliterate gnome kings and gnome floaties in quick succession, but using it whilst moving slows you down, it has 30 seconds of recharge.

Spin Override:

Spin Override has the Junkasaurus spin around before slamming their tail down, dealing heavy damage to all nearby targets sending them flying away. It deals 400 damage. It has a 15 second recharge

Super Heavy Hornblast:

The Junkasaurus fires an energy ball that explodes on impact with high splash damage. It has 12 seconds of recharge

Tricks

These are moves done by Chompzilla in PvZ Heroes. See Support.

Environments

Environment cards are a special type of card that can only be played on Ground lanes. See Support.

Pots

In the shooter games these pots allow Chomper to spawn potted, immovable plants. See Support.

Dirt Mounds

These mounds on the floor allow Chomper to use the Weeds and summon support options. People like Chompzilla don’t need these to summon Heroes plants, though. See Support.

Boss Chests

The boss chests allow plants to summon different bosses, among some of the strongest of the plants. See Support.

Powers & Abilities

Piranha Plant

Plant Physiology

While the biology between each plant tends to vary, the thing they all share is a certain elasticity that makes them hard to fully tear apart. And as stated before, they also somehow have a skeleton.

Fire Manipulation

The most common ability among the plants, they can dispel fireballs from their body and don’t run out.

Ice Manipulation

Just like fire balls, these ice balls can freeze any target in an instant.

Poison Manipulation

The poison from the plant’s body can harm anyone who touches it, but can be cleaned up relatively easily.

Electric Manipulation

When changed to blue, Mom Piranha’s kids can shoot electricity balls out of their mouths.

Ink Manipulation

This damn ink covers up the screen and can temporarily blind the target.

Flight

Piranhacopter | Smashpedia | Fandom

While for most plants it’s limited, slowing gliding down after jumping up into the air, some plants like Petey can keep sustained flight for a while.

Transmutation

Megasmilax, using Petal Blast, can transform its enemies into mushrooms. Normal Piranha Plants can also transform enemies into scarecrows with Scarecrow Dust.

Elasticity

a plant in a pot is hanging from a tree branch

Various versions of the plant can stretch their bodies in any way they’d like, such as the Elasto-Piranha.

Size Changing

Can shrink and grow to surprise nearby enemies.

Teleportation

Piranha Planet can teleport a short distance above to drop onto people.

Sleep Manipulation

Average Piranha Plants and also Chewy can put foes to sleep with the move Pollen Nap.

Item Stealing/Nullification

Paper Petey Piranha had the capability of stealing the action command for Paper Mario to create paper copies for himself by inhaling like Kirby, and used it for himself. This potentially means Paper Petey can steal any item he wants. (Debatable, See Before the Verdict)

Time Slow

With Zone Speed, Piranha Plant can slow down its perception of time to allow it to be able to react to fast moving projectiles or just growing other characters in slow motion, however it can only be used for a brief couple of seconds as using it too much can drain stamina. (As if a Plant needs stamina lol)

Draining/Restoration

Using Normal/Mega Piranha Drain, Piranha Plant can absorb fire and wood based damage for a little bit. Petey can use Giga Piranha Drain, restoring HP equal to the damage done to him.

Damage Reduction

Bone Piranha Plants can use the skills Poison Mist/Poison Smog which reduces the player's damage every turn by inflicting them with poison.

Resistancess

  • Mind Manipulation - Due to the loyalty Bowser’s Minions have towards him they can resist the effects of Fawful’s max percentage Mind Control Spray, which previously worked on the Koopalings.

  • Fire - Bone plants are immune to fire attacks, and Mama Piranha’s summons can change if they’re resistant to Mario’s fire damage or…

  • Electricity - …Mama Piranha’s summons can change if they’re resistant to Luigi’s electric damage.

Chomper

Plant Physiology

Plants in PvZ are powered by sunlight, gaining more energy the more that they receive, though they're capable of fighting for long periods of time without it, too. For example, the night levels don’t include any sun in them, and they can even fight in the Gnomiverse, a timeless plane of existence where the sun doesn’t exist.

Respawning

The GW and BfN versions of Chomper can respawn infinitely. (Debatable, See Before the Verdict)

Goop

The Chomper’s signature ability. Besides chomping. The normal goop slows others down to a halt, and it comes in a few different forms.

Goop: Goop is a ranged attack that deals damage on contact and then deals damage over time for a short amount of time. Goop doesn't do much damage but slows down zombies and forces them to turn at a slower rate; it also makes them unable to use any abilities for 3 seconds. Goop has a 5 second recharge time

Super Sticky Goop: Super sticky goop will completely immobilize the target for 4 seconds as well as making zombies unable to use abilities. However it does not affect their turn rate. Super sticky goop deals less damage than goop and has a 10 second recharge time

Cheesy Goop: Cheesy goop works much like regular goop slowing movement, turn rate and preventing the use of abilities, however it lasts 3.5 seconds and deals more damage over time. It has a cooldown of 10 seconds

Chomp Cannon: Chomp cannon is a ranged attack much like the other goops but its role is to be a pure damage dealer instead of utility. Chomp cannon is a disgustingly strong Loogie that deals high damage with splash damage as well, but has a 15 second recharge time.

Grody Goop: Grody goop is a stronger version of the traditional goop. It deals 40 damage over time by inflicting the toxic status, and this status can spread to nearby zombies. It also disables ability usage. It has a recharge of 7 seconds.

Spikeweed

Chomper’s spikeweeds allow them to ensnare foes in the ground, ensuring that their prey stays still.

Spikeweed: Chomper can spit out spikeweed onto the ground. A spikeweed will remain motionless and pull an approaching zombie into its grasp dealing light damage. A zombie trapped in a spikeweed can be instantly vanquished and swallowed just like a burrow. Chomper has 3 of these that she can deploy with each one taking 60 seconds to recharge and each spikeweed has 120 health

Spiky Spikeweed: Spiky spikeweed are more visible spikeweeds that deal increased damage at the cost of reduced health. Chomper has 2 of these she can deploy and each take 60 seconds to recharge. Spiky spikeweeds only have 84 health

Chesterweed: Chesterweed acts similarly to spiky spikeweed dealing more damage over time, not only this but zombies swallowed who are trapped in chesterweed will be swallowed faster than usual. Chomper has 2 of these she can deploy and each take 60 seconds to recharge. Chesterweeds only have 84 health.

Vampweed: Vampweed’s are spikeweeds that don’t actually deal any damage. While they can still trap zombies to set them up for an easy chomp. Instead if you trap a zombie inside you’ll recover 40 health. While you can only have 2 Vampweed’s and their recharge is 60 seconds, swallowing a zombie trapped by a vampweed will immediately give you another Vampweed. Vampweeds have 120 health

Spikeweed (BfN): Spikeweed works nearly the same as it does in the previous 2 games dealing 25 x 2 damage to ensnared zombies and setting them up for an easy chomp. However they can now be fired out like projectiles, have 25 seconds of recharge, can destroy improvised defences and have a max ammo of 2.

Burrow

Chompers can dig into the ground and eat up unsuspecting targets. Using Sprint Burrow, he can go faster underground but with a more limited range.

Burrow: When using burrow chomper will dive into the dirt below and move around underground for a limited amount of time, upon moving underneath a zombie target Chomper can swallow the target instantly vanquishing it, similar to how his primary chomp works. Burrow has a 15 second cooldown

Sprint Burrow: Sprint burrow works identically to regular burrow but allows Chomper to move at a much faster rate in exchange for being able to stay underground for shorter amounts of time. It has a 15 second cooldown

Burrow (BfN): Burrow works identically to how it does the originally GW and GW2 games with no major differences. It has a cooldown of 50 seconds.

Warp

Both the Unicorn and Twilight Chomper have the ability to Warp as an alternative to Burrowing, the Unicorn Chomper can do a single warp but it’s very long and the Twilight Chomper has two warps in one but both are shorter than the Unicorn Chomper’s.

Rainbow Warp: Rainbow warp is an exclusive ability to unicorn chomper and allows unicorn chomper to teleport forward a short distance. Rainbow warp has 2 charges that take 25 seconds to recharge.

Twilight Warp: Twilight warp is an exclusive ability to twilight chomper. Similar to the Rainbow warp it teleports the chomper forward. However it only has one charge, to make up for this its distance is twice as far as the rainbow warp and it shares the 25 second recharge.

Enhanced Senses

Plants can see invisible zombies that can attack the house. Somehow.

Inhale

Chomper (Plants vs. Zombies 2) - The Plants vs. Zombies Wiki ...

Chomper’s plant food ability will have him inhale all the zombies near him, and then push them back with a loud burp.

Upgrades

Chomper also has 3 upgrades she can unlock through leveling up. These are:

Super Chomper Speed Boost: Which increases its speed.

Hardened Skin: Which sets its max HP to 175 instead of 150.

And Improved Intestinal Chamber: Which makes chompers digestion speed faster.

Later on, Chomper, like all plants, instead of having variants and upgrades for each variant now simply has a list of upgrades that can be given to it. Chomper has 7 upgrade points, and each upgrade takes up a variety of points.

Super Powers

The block meter has 8 charges. When Chompzilla suffers any amount of damage it will fill up by either 1, 2, or 3 slots. When Chompzilla would be hit by an attack and the block meter would fill up to 8 she instead performs a super block taking no damage from the attack and gaining one of her 4 super powers. 1 of these is her signature superpower while the other 3 are shared across multiple heroes. At the start of the game she draws 1 of the 4 randomly, and when superblocking will then conjure one of the remaining 3.

DEVOUR

Devour costs 1 sun like all superpowers and instantly destroys a zombie with the lowest health. If zombies are tied for the lowest health you may then choose one.

HOLO-FLORA

Holo-Flora Costs 1 sun and draws 2 cards.

GEYSER

Geyser costs 1 sun and heals chompzilla and all plants on the field for 4 health.

SCORCHED EARTH

Scorched earth costs 1 sun and lowers all zombies stats who are on the ground lanes by -1/1 (-1 health/-1 attack)

Ambush

Ambush is Chomper’s Tacobility in PvZ 3, making her hide underground while chewing and bursts up to swallow zombies walking above her.

Regeneration

Chomper naturally regenerates health overtime. In modes such as Garden Ops, health regeneration is affected by difficulty. In easy: Health regeneration starts at 3.5 seconds and is increased to 7 health a second when recovering. In normal: Health regeneration starts at 4.5 seconds and is increased to 6 health a second when recovering

Acausality (Type 1)

Despite all of time being shattered due to the taco, none of the plants were affected by this paradox.

Non-Physical Interaction

Chomper and the rest of the plants can interact with ghostly versions of zombies, as well as interact with 8-bit zombies made out of light.

Self-Sustenance

Plants have been shown to survive the vacuum of space, including the Chompers.

Poison Manipulation

The normal goop that spews from Chomper’s mouth isn’t actual poison, but the Toxic Chomper’s spray is.

Ice Manipulation

With Yeti Chomper, the Chomper has the ability to shoot ice out of its mouth.

Fire Manipulation

The Fire Chomper, instead of Chomping as his method of attack, spews fire from his mouth.

Electricity Manipulation

Utilizing electric spray, the Power Chomper attacks with electricity.

Aura

That’s right, Toxic Chomper just has that aura. Anyone near him will be dealt slight damage if close enough.

Resistances

  • Mind Manipulation - Comparable to Zombie Heroes who can resist a Hypno Shroom’s effects, which normally hypnotize their target, only apply minor fatigue to them.

  • Transmutation - Plant Heroes can withstand being hit by the Midas Tough Zombie, who turns everything he touches into goldfish, without being turned into a goldfish. Furthermore, he is comparable to certain Zombies who resist Transmutation, like the Heroes, who can both break out of, or are flat out immune to Rose’s Goatify, which turns Zombies into goats. Finally, the respawning Heroes have shown to be able to work even while transmuted, such as when Torchwood reverts to his smaller form, and respawns despite the difference.

  • Death Manipulation - Unaffected by Zombies possessing the Deadly trait, which allows them to instantly kill Plants they harm.

  • Space-Time Manipulation - Chomper and other Plants can move and interact in areas with destabilized time.He has also shown to be unaffected by the space-time continuum itself collapsing around him.

  • BFR - Chomper can respawn after being banished by Cozmic Brainz. His teleportation and dimensional travel via Respawning.

  • Existence Erasure - Chomper can respawn after being reduced to nothingness by an upgrade from the Wizard Zombie.

  • Empathetic Manipulation - With the help of a Plant Food, Chomper can break out of the Boombox Zombie’s boombox, which tranquilizes Plants and forces them to not do their intended purpose.

  • Poison Manipulation - With the help of Healing Plants. In PvZ BfN has shown to cure poisonous effects, like Scientist’s Heal Beam Of Science stopping Chomper’s Grody Goop, which poisons Zombies.

  • Power Nullification - As mentioned above, Grody Goop can also disable enemies from using their abilities, which healing from outside sources also cures.

Potted Plants

Potted plants can be spawned in pots and are stationary turret-like spawnable entities that will attack approaching zombies with a variety of effects.

The pea cannon is the standard potted plant. With 50 health it shoots peas at approaching zombies. Dealing 20 damage with a direct attack and 10 damage with its attacks splash damage.

The pea repeater is a stronger potted plant with 60 health. It fires 2 peas at once with each pea dealing 15 damage,

The gatling pea is a far more efficient and rapid form of defence. With 60 Health it chooses to rapidly fire on approaching zombies with rapid but weaker shots to burst opponents down.

Bonk choy’s are close ranged defenders with 80 health. The punch approaches zombies with high damage punches.

Scaredy-shrooms have 40 health. They deal 20-35 damage depending on the range of the attack, when zombies get close they’ll hide and won't be attacked.

Heal flowers are stationary medics that produce healing sundrops that plants can walk into and collect to have their health recovered

Fume shrooms have 70 health and shoot acidic bubbles that deal bursts of damage at mid range, they deal 5x increased damage to certain types of armor

Goop-shrooms have 80 health and shoot goop at zombies which slow them down and deal damage to them over time. In BFN their goop acts like the chompers goop preventing abilities from being used

Snapdragons have 90 health and will shoot rapid powerful fire breath and close ranged zombies that dare get too close

Ice shroom is a short ranged plant with 80 health, when zombies get close it will explode in an AoE blast that deals solid damage and freezes zombies solid

Doom shrooms have a 105 health and will explode in a massive explosion that deals 200 damage all around them when zombies get close. In Spite of this high damage and range they take 30 seconds to recharge after exploding

Ice peashooters are frozen variants of standard peashooters dealing 15 damage with their frozen pea shots and slowing zombies down when doing so. They have 50 health

Fire peashooters deal 15 damage with the flaming pea shots then an additional 25 damage over 5 seconds due to the fire status they inflict. They have 50 health

Bamboo shoots have 60 health and shoot down a rain of bamboo which deals heavy damage to targets in its radius

Laser bean shoots long ranged shots that deal a solid 7-8 damage to zombie targets.

Lightning reeds fire mid ranged shots at singular targets, the shock damage then spreads to other nearby targets. It can also let out a big burst of electricity to close ranged targets before needing to recharge. Lightning reeds have 70 health

Toxic Gloom-shrooms shoot out sprays of close ranged poisonous gas that inflicts the toxic status onto zombies dealing additional damage over time

Weeds

Weeds are used on offence. They can be summoned out of the ground and will approach the enemy.

Weeds are comparable to the basic brown coats they have 25/30 health depending on the game and wander towards the objective or their target in order to hit them with their weeds

Pumpkin weeds are much like their normal counterparts; they simply have 90 health instead of the traditional 25/30 the standard ones have.

Terracotta weeds are much like normal weeds but they have a little pot on their health that provides more health than usual. Having 170/175 (for the festival variant) or 125 in BFN

Dandelions are fast and mobile and love to explode. They rush towards zombies before exploding in a big burst. They have 50 and 25 health depending on the game

Leaf shield weeds are like pumpkin weeds but with cute leaf shields. They still have 90 health but as opposed to the standard weed whack they also have access to a ranged spit attack.

Just like leaf shield weeds, these are terracotta weeds who have the same amount of health at 170. Just like leaf shield weeds they also have a spit attack.

Vase weeds have a close ranged smack with their vase and a long ranged spit but have a high health and durable vase for protection. The weed itself has 90 health.

Porcelain vase weeds are pretty much just better vase weeds but with higher base health of 170

Heal weeds are weeds that occasionally drop healing sundrops that heal nearby plants. They also smack zombies with their little flags

Flag weeds have 170 health and smack zombies with their flags. And can spit out seeds at range. More valuable than that is their use of their flag to buff the defence of nearby plants.

Hypno-shrooms are 70 Health mushrooms who will approach zombies and latch onto them with unique hypnotic weapons dealing damage over time while zombies affected can use their weapons, their vision is blurred and their movement can randomly act up causing them to move in random uncontrollable directions.

Wildflowers are weeds that are built for ranged combat, they have weak ranged attacks. They have melee attacks and can throw a disk that explodes knocking targets back.

Terracotta wildflowers are just stronger tankier wildflowers with a cute pot on their heads.

When sufficiently angry, super bean can enter the overbean state where he gains incredible damage resistance and will scream out an energy beam at targets that deal’s heavy damage over time. This damage reduction is 5x less than normal, though he can only use this attack at half health or less.

ROYAL HYPNO FLOWER

  • Royal hypno flower has 275 health

Royal Hypno Flower shares many of her abilities with her normal royal counterpart just altered slightly. She still has the melee sweeps with her leaves to knock targets back. Royal Hypno Flowers' main ranged attack deals damage at long distances but leaves a damaging cloud of spores on impact that deal damage over time. Similar to hypno-shrooms the royal hypno flower has a tether that deals damage over time while blurring vision this just doesn't blur a zombies vision but will pull them towards her. She, like the Royal Flower, can also summon allies but instead of sunflowers will summon hypno-shrooms. Finally the Royal Hypno Flower will charge up energy making herself vulnerable but upon full charge will turn all zombies into goats, requiring a special item to undo its effects, otherwise it is permanent.

It can also perform a melee attack that knocks opponents back and also spreads a similar grody goop substance around itself.

Plant Cards

Chompzilla can summon these plant cards to help her in battle. These in specific are minions that are played onto the field and remain there until defeated. Scaling

Piranha Plant

Mario

While it might seem a bit much to some people to directly scale the Plants to Mario and the others given their general portrayed as common fodder several sources prove otherwise like the gifs above of them visually hurting, surviving attacks from and keeping up with them this includes stuff like Mario Kart and Mario Tennis Aces, and at the very least the boss Plants like Petey Piranha should absolutely scale either way.

Mario’s Allies

Mario’s Rogues Gallery

Bowser

The self reclaimed leader of the Koopa Troop himself, Piranha Plants make up nowhere near a fraction of the amount of species of minions Bowser has in his army and should be a match in power for his generals with Petey Piranha being one of them.

Rosalina

Chomper

Other Plants

Due to Chomper fighting amongst their fellow plant brethren, they’re all very comparable to one another.

The Zombies

Chomper and the other plants fight head-to-head against the zombies every day, so it’s only natural that Chomper would scale to their base power.

The Gnomes

Technically being the main antagonist of PVZ in canon both sides of the spectrum have fought off against these gnomes including inside their own wibbly wobbly timey wimey dimension.

Cosmology

Mario

Main credit for the specifics of the cosmology will be from this post on Reddit https://www.reddit.com/r/DeathBattleMatchups/s/8zGnWRH3hJ

The Universe

Now this one will likely seem pretty difficult to solve since we don’t get that much elaboration on the size of the Mario Universe, but we do know from multiple sources specifically in Super Paper Mario that state that outer space in the universe is infinite in size, which should be a reasonable source especially when one of them is given by Tippi who gives you tips on nearly every single import not in the main game, now this place is technically regarded as an alternate dimension within the Flipside, however from what we’re shown it’s never really explained that it also doesn’t apply to either the main Universe or just all dimensions in Super Paper Mario.

In Mario Galaxy 2 we know that there are 7 Worlds in total each one of them being in the Japanese translation stated to being a whole other universe which while I’ve seen some arguments against it I feel like it just makes a lot of sense considering each level in Galaxy is… well a galaxy it wouldn’t really make sense if the solution to storing a whole bunch of galaxies to instead stuff them into one larger galaxy each. In fact Lubba even states that Mario would need to travela across spcae and time in order to reach each new world so potentially at least 7 Times Universal.

But this universe also contains another thing inside it that we’ll get to in a little bit that can boost it significantly but it’s not literally the next thing.

Matter Splatter Galaxy

But this isn’t the only high end argument that comes from Mario Galaxy ho-hoo boy say hello to Matter Splatter Galaxy, now long story short I’m not really gonna harp on the is for too long since it’s been discussed a lot but essentially this Galaxy’s main gimmick is that it focuses on these platforms that phase in an out of reality, now some people would probably think “Oh that looks pretty similar to the proposal idea of a fourth-dimensional object.” And you’d have limited sources to prove that, until you look at the Japanese translation it states that this galaxy is referred to as A place shown by Hyperspace which is of course supposed to refer to stuff like transcending and higher dimensional things, however this can be tricky to truly decipher since there is also another meaning of Hyperspace in Japan which is supposed to refer to FTL travel being possible however some translations actually back up the idea of it being higher spatially, Chinese and Spanish specifcally translate it as “Hyperdimensional” while German translates it as “Superspace” it seems pretty clear intention-wise that the meaning of the phrase was meant to be referring to a Higher spatial dimension.

As Matter Splatter Galaxy is a physical location within the universe in order for the universe to contain it, it would need or at least to match it in dimensionality, which as such would mean the main Mario Universe would be at least 4D or Uni+ Which also backs up the idea of the outer space being infinite.

Other Universes/Dimensions

Just a list of shown alternate dimensions across the Mario Multiverse to add to the number of universes

The Black Jewel

In Wario World, the Black Jewel is said to create a parallel universe in Wario’s basement, being the main conflict of this game. Let’s break it down.

With official wording specifically, the manual of the game says that the jewel is “changing Wario’s world,” the game description relating back to this saying that the whole area is a “weird world” but then also says he scours multiple worlds for treasure. With these statements it can be safely assumed that the Black Jewel is in the planetary ranges of power. It even shows multiple celestial bodies like stars in the game, and even a moon. To top all of this off, the official Nintendo website describes that the Black Jewel created “a parallel universe.”

So. Where can we scale this? While we know the jewel itself warped the entire space and its death led to collapse, Wario beat the jewel all in all. So it’s safely comparable. Combined with the game’s official descriptions, actual showings of starry skies and other celestial bodies like moons, this is pretty clearly all its own universe, and Wario scales to its creation and destruction.

Painting Worlds

In Mario 64 Bowser created the worlds inside of Paintings using Power Stars.

As detailed by the official Nintendo Power Super Mario 64 Strategy Guide, all of these Paintings are in fact their own “worlds,” as repeated by guides and general statements about the courses. The collective grouping of them are frequently stated as worlds with 3-dimensional space, as well as individual levels like Bob-omb Battlefield, Cool Cool Mountain, Tick Tock Clock, Rainbow Ride, etc. This also includes Bowser's first and second boss-fight levels, which are outright referred to as distinct worlds on their own merit. So, due to that grouping, they should/could all be considered comparable in size.

As for that size (which matters in how powerful creating one of these would be), it's strangely not shown in the game to any outright degree, albeit it is somewhat spoken of. Big Boo's Haunt has a Moon present inside it, while Wiggler mentions gazing at stars from Tiny-Huge Mountain in both the original and the remake, which would at least entail the usual pocket dimension starry sky calculations. As for statements, the game manual has spoken of Tick Tock Clock bearing an “endless abyss,” while Japanese translations show Shifting Sand Lands having “infinite underworlds” inside it. Taken together, both of these areas should be infinite spaces. They also have their own axis of time separate from the main universe and each other, as some levels are shown at being midday, the time in Tick Tock Clock literally stops when it hits 12 o’clock and Big Boo’s Haunt is shown at nighttime, showing that they should each have their own axis of time, and would thus be Uni+ or 4D (3 dimensions of space and 1 dimension of time). Since we know all of the Paintings fall into the same “world” classification in context, logically, all the others could/should qualify as infinite spaces too. How many are there? Well, there are 15 core levels in the game, as well as Bowser’s 2 out of 3 boss levels (the 3rd is in the sky, and not a Painting). So, 17 Painting Worlds in total. And in the English Strategy Guide it was hinted that Bowser merge all of these worlds with the main universe. It’s also important to know that Bowser used Power Star to make these realms, and Bowser was able to survive nearly 30 Power Stars worth of attacks at once.

So overall this would both add to the cosmology of at least 17x Universal and be a powerful creation feat as well.

Dreams

Dreams in the Mario world are a bit much, but let’s break it down here. The Dream Depot is a location, likely in outer space, where all dreams end up. In fact, new dreams end up here every day and night. This is backed up by Mario & Luigi: Dream Team where whenever a person or living creature starts to go to sleep, a different world is created.

To understand how many worlds there are in Mario’s cosmology, we need to understand how many beings there are. Mario Odyssey’s officially licensed guidebook states that there are areas populated with infinite Chinchos, and it’s not just them respawning. This is specifically referring to the amount of Chinchos there are in this area. Chinchos themselves are undead ghostly beings, which could in turn mean they don’t sleep, and therefore, don’t dream. However, ghosts in the Mario series have been shown to sleep before. Boo itself even went to the Dream Depot in Mario Party 5, and the Star Guards specifically stated they invited those who have the power dream to come to the depot.

How do we know dreams are universes? Well, places like Subcon and the Dream Depot itself are stated to be different universes. The Dream Depot is even said to be infinite in scope. Dream Team also Shows these dreams have their own space time within each of them with the Luiginary Works that allow you to slow down/speed up time. The Zeekeeper boss fight also shows that there can be many parallel dimensions in the same dream, at least up to 3. This would mean that each Dream World is at least a Uni+, or possibly Low Multi environment.

Now one could argue that in Dream Team certain dreams can lead to the same location as such disproving the theory that individual dreams are entire universes, however this is unlikely a stand alone passive thing because Dreambert states that he has to connect Luigi’s dream to Bowser’s in order for them to be in the same dream, relating it back to the situation with when they did it with Big Massif as well, and also requires specific circumstances like two people sleeping next to each other to have the same dream more likely apply both individual dreams are merged together.

As such this would be Multi+ since it’s an infinite amount of Universes each of which are infinite in size, but even if you want to say there are only finite dreams considering how much life is in the Mario Universe, from regular animals to inanimate objects which likely have the ability to dream as well, this would push the number incomprehensibly high into Multi it might as well not matter.

Even besides that at the end of Dream Team, Mario and Luigi were able to fight and ultimately best, The Zeekeeper, Antasma, and Dreamy Bowser, The Zeekeeper (total bro fr btw) is basically the master of dreams having the ability to warp reality within the dream world, shatter barriers created by the Dream Stone, and was the one to be capable of dealing with Antasma back in the day, speaking of which, Antasma is a very powerful being as well, given that he direct control over nightmares, and is able to control and even completely destroy the Dark Stone, basically the opposite to the Dream Stone and as such is very powerful. But the most impressive thing given from this game the bros have taken down is Dreamy Bowser, basically the results of Bowser inhaling the broken fragments of the Dream Stone which has the power of every dream… specifically on Pi'illo Island, but given the Low end amount of People an island can have being around 100,000 from what most have gathered as well as the fact this would still technically count for more than just the civilians of Pi'illo Island given that again in the Mario Verse you don’t really need to be alive or even sentient to dream.

All around I feel like all of this is a good acceptable place to put the Dream scaling for this blog the evidence against it to me doesn’t seem that incriminating, and the arguments for it while maybe requiring some stitching together of different sources manages to work just through a good amount of consistency and sources throughout those multiple games.

Higher Dimensions

But it doesn’t quite end there yet oh no, with how big the Mario Universe is on its own it stems to reason that these planes of reality here would transcend them but let’s start out discussing each point one by one to see if they hold validity.

The Cutout

In Paper Mario Color Splash, there is this one technique in the game that you can perform with Huey that let’s Mario exit their dimension and view it as a flat surface most importantly for more context It is specifically refered to by Huey as transcending dimensions and is also said to be transcending the very boundaries of time and space by a Toad named “Deep Cuts” Toad. This same Toad even stated you’d need trans dimensional scissors to be able to cut through these spaces. So there does seem to be consistent enough evidence that it is mainly supposed to be referring to Mario jumping out of the universe and viewing it as a lower-dimensional structure and thus would make it around 5D there’s more consistent proof to say this is the case then not.

The Afterlife

To continue with the Paper Mario trend we’re setting here. So if you didn’t see above there is this place in Super Paper Mario called the Overthere, which for all intents in purposes is basically Heaven, which obviously sets some interesting implications right off the bat, but something that needs a little elaboration is that surprisingly enough despite what it seems generally from some people it isn’t actually stated to be a higher plane of existence or anything on that level at least there isn’t a scan of it anywhere, but there are two things you can argue that would make it so.

1: In Super Mario 64 it is stated in one of the Level Guide Manuel’s that Boo’s inherently come from an extra dimensional place, now this statement could either be taken out of context for what we’re actually talking about, or could just be referring to a separate dimension or could be referencing the Paranormal Dimension we see in the Luigi’s Mansion games despite the fact this game came out like half a decade prior but it does seem to sort of imply a connection to the afterlife being higher-dimensional since you know, Boo’s are undead so this is a potential high ball.

2: In Paper Mario Color Splash there is this there is this group of deceased Toads that Mario helps called the Tea Party Toads. How can I say this with a straight face? Lol. After Mario helps them have their tea party they outright say by writing it in a letter they’d be leaving by ascending to a higher plane of existence which is almost super blatant, and given what we know about The Overthere being the afterlife it needs to be in a separate dimension, so this is also something as a potential highball that should be mentioned. And this place was affected and being torn apart by The Void.

Overall while it’s debatable if this would be 100% accurate, The Cutout stuff is definitely still enough to justify for the Mario Cosmology being Fifth-Dimensional.

Where does Piranha Plant Scale in Cosmology?

As we mentioned throughout the feats section given that Piranha Plant, even the just the standard versions in particular have somewhat reasonable ways of scaling to the Mario cast, even without that, the boss plants like Petey Piranha, Dino Piranha, Peewee Piranha and more should most definitely scale to the Mario Cast including characters like Rosalina and Bowser which would more or less put them on the level to scale them to the main Mario universe or Multiversal+.

But can we properly scale them to the higher-dimensional stuff?

Unfortunately no, since really the only way for any character to truly scale to this level is from the Chaos Heart which Dimentio used to create The Void which was stated to be able to destroy all universes, all dimensions and all of existence, now while I would see the argument for scaling the main heroes of the game to that level of power especially given their fight against Super Dimentio, narratively speaking I don’t think I should make sense to scale the Plants to that level especially when it did still take four of them to ultimately beat Dimentio.

Conclusion

Universal to Multiversal+ - Reasonable. Just due to the fact many Piranha Plants should be in close equivalent to the Mario cast normally this should give leeway to scale to the standard Mario universe

5-D - Debatable

This can be accessed by scaling characters to The Chaos Heart which was going to wipe out the entire cosmology, and is basically a god tier of the verse, and in general it’s in kind of a messy situation with scaling, while I do think it’s likely to scale the main characters to this level like Mario, Luigi, Peach And Bowser to this level since they were able to fight Count Bleck, Dimentio and even Super Dimentio by the end who was empowered by The Chaos Heart, given narrative intentions it’s unlikely Plant can be scaled to that level of power and as such will not be included in the verdict.

Plants Vs Zombies

Gnomes (and the Possibility of String Theory)

Gnomes are sillier Mr. Mixy-like characters who control time, space, atoms, etc., shown as being MUCH more powerful than the average human being. Back in the scaling section, we discussed how they can casually do inhuman things like use galaxies as cushion protectors or count to infinity. Being rulers of time also means they are capable of casually manipulating it such as warping through it, destabilizing it, and more. While the gnomes are not only capable of manipulating time, they don't seem to take the concept very seriously at all, treating the aspect of time as a joke. They keep time and space in their pockets for Christ’s sake.

Where the normal flow and structure of time cease to apply to us due to infinite densities and gravitational forces, the concept of time loses its usual meaning to Gnomes. Our current understanding of physics can't describe what happens, meaning that the gnomes have a natural immunity to the laws of the universe and time itself. A list of Gnomus’s statements can be found here, one specifically saying “We wave our quilts from the finest string theory!” For those who are unaware of what that is, basically, imagine everything in the universe being made up of incredibly tiny strings that can vibrate in different ways. These vibrations determine what we see as particles like electrons or quarks. It's kind of like how different vibrations on a guitar string produce different sounds. String theory suggests that these strings could explain everything from the smallest building blocks of matter to the forces that govern the universe, all wrapped up in their vibrations. It's a way of trying to understand how everything fits together in one big picture.

Some apply this to the cosmology part of PvZ because string theory requires at least 10 dimensions to work, otherwise this theory isn’t possible at all, and therefore Gnomus wouldn’t have mentioned it at all. Others like to point to how you can get an achievement in Garden Warfare 2 entitled String Theory, where you enter Infinity as a zombie, and overall it can be considered as just fitting with the Gnomes’ general theme of not applying to normal Earthly concepts in any way shape or form. String theory could be argued as the structure of the cosmology, and the aspects of PvZ’s reality. Gnomes could be made from string theory at the very least, and they are also stated to be made from infinity clay. Infinity Time is also known as the Gnomiverse, a place that doesn’t exist anywhere in time or space, a dimension unto itself.

It can be argued that the Gnomes perhaps created the Gnomiverse via infinity clay or string theory, or it could also possibly just be the source of it. Connecting this back to what we know instead of what we’re theorizing, the Gnomes don’t take the actual aspects of reality seriously, laughing at the very concept of time itself. We have now come to understand that they could be created from string theory, or an idea similar to it like the infinity clay, governing all aspects of reality that they mock, the general 10 dimensions of string theory. Overall, this point of the cosmology is debatable and will be elaborated on in the Before the Verdict Section.

Conclusion

Gnomes could possibly be 10+ dimensional beings that the rest of the PvZ cast could scale to, but the legitimacy of this can be debated.

Plasma Pea

There’s always a leech like this in every big verse. One particular character that’s just completely against everything else the verse stands for and is completely hard to explain. A “this fucking guy” as I like to call it. So, this fucking guy, the Plasma Pea, is said to shoot universes out of each pea he generates. The full description describes them as “Peas that are entire universes unto themselves. Peas of swirling, twirling galaxies, home to millions of stars. Peas with enormous nebulae that dwarf you and me. Peas sewn of the very fabric of space time, from which the infinite possibilities of the cosmos are born." Physically speaking, Plasma Pea’s peas have their own stars and galaxies in-game in comparison to the description of them. This is elaborated more in the section below.

Before the Verdict

Why are we scaling Piranha Plant to the Mario Cast?

This is kind of a thing that sort of applies to nearly every common fodder in the Mario Universe, Goomba, Koopa or not, though things aren’t that simple at least for the most part, while Mario can usually one shot most enemies just by jumping on them not only are Piranha Plants one of the few he cannot jump on at least not normally as mentioned before there have been several times throughout canon where Piranha Plants and standard enemies in Mario in general have been able to keep up with/be on par with the main Mario cast even in what many consider the mainline games just by the fact any enemy can even hurt Mario at all.

Minigames in Mario Party like Piranha’s Pursuit, Tug of War, Winner or Dinner, Piranha Patch, etc.

This also extends to the Mario Sports titles where on most occasions Piranha Plants can be seen literally eating characters just for a gag, of course the Piranha Plant item in Mario Kart is a blatant example, Mario Tennis Aces has the Fire Piranha Plant as a playable character and thus actually able to keep up with the Mario cast physically, the list goes on. Plus even if you don’t believe the standard Piranha Plants scale to the Mario cast, some of the bosses like Petey Piranha, Dino Piranha etc should absolutely scale just due to being prominent bosses in the Mario series.

All around I think scaling the Plant Gang to the Mario cast should absolutely be fair, especially for this type of blog.

Culex

Culex is a commonly debated topic in Mario scaling, stating that he has power over all of space time and in the Japanese translation has “the power that rules over all creation.” However there’s a few issues with this:

Basically Featless

While this does seem very impressive, and if given a lot of scope in how “creation” could be interpreted, he could be considered universal. So, he could affect the timeline and therefore the universe around himself, but he performs no feats that would indicate this level of power. The most power Culex is capable of reaching is upscaling from Smithy, having higher stats than him.

Lower Dimensionality

Culex in the Japanese translation of Mario RPG states that he’s from the 2nd dimensional, but just able to comprehend the 3rd dimensional powers of Mario and the gang. And while he comes back in the remake with a new 3D appearance, saying that he’s stronger, he still doesn’t have any feats like… At all. This basically makes arguments of Culex being an “ultra cosmology wiper” or whatever seem uneventful to begin with.

Conclusion

Culex is a featless guy who we know virtually nothing about, his space-time abilities are completely unquantified and have no visual representations or examples, and his dialogue is wildly different from the Japanese and English texts, even calling himself a lower being at first. Culex is a fraud.

What’s Petey’s stealing limit?

In Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam, we see Paper Petey steal Paper Mario’s Copy Block and then use it for himself. Given that Paper Mario has shown this ability and power before, this means Petey can steal every single ability he sees right? And given that it’s a mechanic, even Chomper’s button to use goop for example, could be used with Petey. Well, not quite. The Copy Block itself was an item given to Mario & Luigi in that game specifically, meaning this is setting apart this from being an ability or certain power Paper Mario has. Sure, it’s an intended game mechanic/move, but it acts as an item  being stolen rather than power-siphoning. It is a block after all, and Paper Petey knocks it right back to Paper Mario after he uses it. Overall this can be debated against, but given the context we’ll be letting Petey steal things like Chompzilla’s cards and Chomper’s potted plants to use for himself, as they’re objects used to summon other characters, unironically like the ability to summon paper copies, so this specifically is fair game.

Incalculable Speeds (Mario)

Now a lot of people like the cap Mario’s speed at around Triple digit Quadrillions to maybe double digit Quintillions of times the speed of light, which is of course understandable, but there are in fact arguments you can make for Infinite or even Immeasurable speed for the Mario Verse, and we’re gonna go over and analyse them to so if they’re legitimate.

Infinite Speed

Now these main two points for infinite speed go hand in hand since they both have to do with the cosmology.

Starting off with an easy one, if you buy the Mario Universe being infinite in its size, which we have shown arguments for in the cosmology section then any galaxy/universe travel feat (mainly from the Galaxy games) by definition would fall under infinite speed especially since it shows and describes how certain travels can be from the edge of the universe in which case traveling half of infinity, and we don’t need to drop the GVS2 Bomb right now to explain that.

Now for something a bit more sensible, being the Dream Depot which as described before is shown to be a structure containing infinite universes each of which are infinite in size, and the Main characters, Bowser and the Star Spirits are shown the ability of casually traveling from dream to dream, the Star Spirits even state Bowser will destroy every dream one by one, which is definitely an infinite speed feat no matter how you slice it, would be bordering on immeasurable it it weren’t for the fact he’d destroy them one by one.

So yeah, depending on interpretations of the Cosmology, Mario characters can definitely reach at least infinite speed.

Immeasurable

This one has a couple more arguments in total, though some are more reasonable then the others.

Starting off with one we briefly mentioned in the scaling section since it’s debatable, being the one with the Zeekeeper being capable of creating dimensional rifts, people try and argue the Zeekeeper did it via its power and speed, the main source being that Dreambert says “You’ll have to match its power.” After being surprised by the Zeekeeper’s capability to travel across dimensions. which under normal metric’s would be immeasurable, however it’s very vague on if this is actually the case and not just an ability The Zeekeeper possesses just from being an all powerful reality/dream warper, though something I actually might want to add on to this is that the Zeekeeper seemingly has the ability to exit out of the Dream World without the need to create a portal and does show a consistent trait with the Zeekeeper and Dimension hopping, and that’s that it is always flying at relatively high speeds to travel and isn’t ever shown just creating a portal willy nilly while standing still so there are potential arguments for it but I think it’s somewhat shaky.

Though there are two more arguments I wanted to discuss one of them being that Mario and the heroes from Super Paper Mario are able to traverse through this dimension could the Woah Zone which is stated to be a place where beyond space itself, of course this is the only real statement we have on this being the case so it’s a little uncertain but if it is the case this would very likely fall under the immeasurable range.

Finally definitely the most blatant example of this again comes from the Cutout which is just straight up stated to transcend time and space given everything we’ve talked about it in the cosmology section this should absolutely hold up and Mario and Huey are able to freely move around in this space so this feat in particular is definitely immeasurable.

Conclusion

This is mainly due to what I’m certain we’ll be using to scale the Chomper too lol. Overall I do think there’s a lot of merit to Incalculable speeds for Mario, the infinite speed ones are pretty much standard just because of the size of the Mario Universe, and while there’s only really one immeasurable argument I think truly works, it being backed up by the several infinite, plus plethora of MFTL+ Should be enough to back it up enough to be considered standard.

Incalculable Speeds (PvZ)

While we’ve calculated some of the speeds of the PvZ characters to be very high, there’s arguments for them to be immeasurable also. Let’s talk about it.

Stopped Time

Some characters can move in stopped time, like Assistant Manager Bitey and the Gnomes. This is assumed by the fact that both of these characters are moving in stopped time with only their speed, and don’t have some kind of time stop resistance. Either are just as likely and there’s no evidence to support either of these, so we can’t rely on them for an argument of immeasurable speed.

Gnomes Counting to Infinity

The Gnomes have stated that they can count to infinity, and even experience three levels of it as well. However, the Gnomiverse is a realm where time doesn’t pass and the normal laws of physics don’t apply. It’s kinda hard to get to infinity of something when the lack of time doesn’t even allow you to get to one of something yet. The Gnomes counting to infinity is technically possible if they have finite speed, but again, time doesn’t pass at all. The Gnomes experiencing multiple infinities would also contradict them doing these feats in finite timeframes, as they’d have infinite time to do them. Sort of hard to understand as a finite human being, but both of the infinite Gnome feats aren’t very reliable.

Party Time

Party Citron and the Party Agents can party so hard that Citron broke the concept of time and the Agents caused a singularity that sucked them into the past and into Gnomiverse respectively. Since Party Time in specific is activated by defeating five enemies first, and isn’t some kind of portal-opening ability someone has, they literally get so pumped up that their stats are physically boosted because of it. This is supported by the wording supporting that the Plants are partying “hard enough” to break the fabric of certain singularities, which wouldn’t make sense if it wasn’t comparable to their physicality. So, yes, this is a usable immeasurable feat that the plants scale to.

Although there’s one more immeasurable feat we’re not talking about...

Is Plasma Pea Really That Powerful?

Given the arguments there are against Plasma Pea, let’s discuss them here to give this piece of scaling some explanation.

“It’s submitted by a fan, therefore Plasma Pea shouldn’t be taken seriously.”

This is probably the weakest argument against the little guy. Him being submitted by a fan shouldn’t have any impact on him. He’s still an important part of PvZ’s canon whether you like it or not. Even then, the crazy universe description of Plasma Pea was created by PopCap, and only the design was made with the fan’s description at heart, ultimately deciding on a different one altogether. Everything else with him is official and his powers are, too.

“Plasma Pea’s peas are just an ability he has, he doesn’t scale to them outright.”

Even if you think this, the zombies themselves can react to the peas shot by Plasma Pea, and therefore Plasma Pea should scale to them dodging it.

“Plasma Pea’s descriptions are just meant to be comedic and in no way actually that powerful.”

The comedic angle to Plasma Pea is interesting to me. As there's no hyperbole behind this, in fact Plasma Pea’s upgrades directly support this, existing in a wave of probability, furthering the silly sci-fi aspect of the series just like with the Gnomes. So, yeah, it’s silly, but it’s just how the verse works and not an outlier in any sense. Not taking Plasma Pea seriously means that you shouldn’t take things like toon force seriously either, when it quite literally is in most VS-based scenarios even regarding its hilarity. But that’s kinda the fun of it. Comedic physics are clearly just how the PvZ world works most of the time.

Conclusion

Overall, Plasma Pea’s shots can be dodged and avoided by plants and zombies alike and they all should scale to him. Universal-wise, MFTL-wise, and immeasurably.

Are Chomper’s Respawns Canon?

The shooter versions of the plants are shown to respawn after they die, but respawning is a typical game mechanic of first person shooters, so how do we know for sure it’s legit?

Stated in Descriptions

In Armor Chomper’s descriptions in both games, it says that “He tries to lube up his joints during respawns so he doesn't sound too creaky.” Disregarding the fact that we absolutely should’ve put lube in the equipment section for Chomper, this is directly referencing that respawns are a real thing that each plant can experience. It even says “during” respawns meaning there’s a point in time between the living in dying states that a plant experiences where they’re not dead or alive. Purgatory maybe? We don’t know. But this isn’t the only evidence.

Items and Abilities in Relation

Reviving is seen as an obstacle by the zombies and they plan around revives by instating forces like Cozmic Brainz and Wizard, who specifically negate revives and force the plants to respawn manually. Another zombie, TV Head, can change the place it respawns to with its Commercial Break ability. Similarly, Wildflower also has the ability Wild Life which does the same exact thing.

Conclusion

GW 1, 2, & BfN Plants can canonically respawn as many times as they want.

Are the Gnomes Actually 10 Dimensional?

As we discussed in the cosmology section, it’s entirely possible that the gnomes could be 10 dimensional beings, or even higher depending on what you believe. However, there are a few problems with this that will be elaborated on now.

Lack of Context

The statement that was touched upon for even starting this argument was Gnomus stating that the gnomes “weave their quilts from the finest string theory.” While this could be true, it’s obviously still a very vague statement like the rest of Gnomus’s lines that doesn’t seem to elaborate the full values of its context. While it isn’t a problem usually, since as stated before PvZ is usually silly in terms of its sci-fi stuff, this context of what string theory means between the gnomes is sort of necessary to consider it a full-on lore statement. Comparing this to something like Plasma Pea’s attacks which have a lot of reasoning and context behind them to consider it even at all.

Lack of Higher Plains

Plants vs. Zombies in general has never really gone into the territory of higher planes of existence, since the Gnomiverse is never truly stated to be of that quality. It’s just stated to be outside of time and space, so the likeliness of string theory being even applicable here is questionable and not related to the rest of PvZ’s lore at all. Like, there’s no Peashooter god or whatever that we could consider to be a higher plain, as cool as that would be, it just isn’t happening here.

Lack of Consistency

By the very nature of string theory, even the lower end of what’s called “superstring theory”, the 10D stuff that’s pulled from for the gnomes is mainly the same the laws of extra dimensions, specifically 9 spatial dimensions and 1 dimension of time (temporality), which also applies to the other two main string theories, M-Theory works on 10 dimensions of space and 1 dimension of time making it 11D, and bosonic string theory works on 20 dimensions of space and 6 dimensions of time making it 26D. But here’s the thing. The Gnomiverse is explicitly stated to lack time. It’s true that it’s complicated and weird and has contradictions against it but it is still stated to just be a place without time in general.

Conclusion

Gnomes relating to string theory hardly carries any weight at all (like actual strings!), meaning the plants, zombies, and gnomes aren’t 10 dimensional and are regularly 3 dimensional beings at least.

This lack of explanation with the Gnome statements leads us to the next thing to consider before the verdict with PvZ cosmology...

Is Gnomus lying about the Gnome Statements?

Tweedle Deedle Dee, Neeheehee.

So. This is what we’ve come down to. Let’s discuss if Gnomus the Gnome King is lying about his statements. As mentioned in the scaling section, gnomes are stated to be able to do such impossible things as fart out black holes, and hold space and time in their pockets. These statements come with some scrutiny though, as Gnomus is a pretty prolific liar, like when you’re fighting him only for him to reveal that it was a clone the whole time. Also some just statements just don’t line up with what they say like Gnomish Floaties destabilizing time. If they can destabilize time (which, again, doesn’t even exist in the Gnomiverse by the way) why would they need to hold it in their pockets? Or vice versa? All-in-all, it’s just confusing to scale but there are a few ways to go about believing them.

While it’s true Gnomus is a pretty big liar, other gnomes that aren’t him also talk about time in the same nonsensical and uncaring way he does. Along with that, they have technology that can keep up with Crazy Dave’s and Zomboss’s mechs like Junkasauraus and Mecha Cat. Also, plants and zombies have shown to take universal damage in the gamemode Soil Survivors. Every 30 seconds, the space-time continuum collapses and shrinks, and both parties can withstand this damage at least for a limited time. So even if you don’t buy the gnome statements, that’s a pretty good reason to believe something similar. So, it’s a good compromise to say that Gnomus is definitely lying some of the time, but is just lying closer to the truth.

Overall these statements about the gnomes just come down to what you buy and how fair you want to make a fight, and members of this blog have differing thoughts on the matter. There isn’t really a concrete answer here, as pretty much the amount of arguments and counterarguments to these statements are pretty much equal. Overall, we’ll be taking it into consideration for the final verdict due to the Soil Survivors stuff being comparable.

Hey hey it’s me Dash, the creator of Apocalypse Blogs. This blog was a big undertaking and I really cannot thank enough the two individuals (Alfie & Ruby) who helped me with Mario scaling and PvZ Heroes nonsense and just so much else. It’s my third blog ever and I think we honestly did a great job. This is one of my favorite MUs ever and I really hope it happens in Death Battle someday. Anyways, let’s get into who I think wins. If you’ve forgotten, we’re analyzing this in a 1-on-1 composite with every version of plant without the notable variants, and a full-on army fight with each and every version of either.
1-on-1 Composite Scenario
Stats
Starting with strength and durability, what it truly comes down to is just who you scale higher. We’re scaling Plant to Mario & gang’s uni-multi feats and Chomper to just… Everything. While the Mario verse has shown to have an infinite multiverse, Plant couldn’t scale higher than that like we said, like to Super Dimentio’s bullshit he pulls off, since it really took multiple of the Mario cast to do that and Plant hasn’t shown any ends to that regard. Chomper on the other hand really only gets to universal levels of power. While PvZ has arguments for a larger multiverse, it’s really just Plasma Pea shenanigans and maybe the League of Awesome quest? And we’ve debunked 10D PvZ so… Plant is shown harming stronger foes overall, and taking hits from them, too. Strength and durability goes to the Piranha Plant.
Next with speed, versions of Plant can keep up with Paper Mario who can move in the Cutout, a place beyond space and time yadda yadda immeasurable obviously. And Chomper is comparable to various party plants who can party so hard that they go back in time, or into the Gnomiverse. Both of these combatants’ speed feats are backed up by various MFTL+ scaling as well. Very clearly they’re both immeasurable… Meaning these two match in speeds. So, speed is a tie then right? Well, not quite. Base speed, for sure, but not overall. Due to the fact that Plant can slow down time with Zone Speed, they can react quicker and dodge attacks much more easily. Time is relative to the viewer, so even if it’s immeasurable speeds we as humans can’t measure, it’s still enough to be able to react to what Chomper is doing. With a very slight edge, speed goes to the Piranha Plant.
Powers & Abilities
These two show very similar abilities in terms of channeling the elements. Fire, ice, poison, and electricity are all things they’re capable of spewing out of their very large gullets. The thing Plant has that Chomper doesn’t there is… Ink maybe? While I thought at first that Chomper would have better movement abilities through warping and burrowing, Plant has shown that it can grow up and out of the ground in various Paper Mario games, and it can even teleport short distances thanks to Piranha Planet. And while Chomper’s powers in the shooter games are a lot more nuanced, they’re still pretty much matched here then, right? Well, there’s a few things Chomper has that Plant doesn’t. For one, a HECK ton of more resistances than Plant, and its goop can nullify a lot of what Plant can dish out. But even ignoring all of that, it would be very hard to get around Chomper’s respawns. They’re able to respawn after death an infinite amount of times, so how would Plant get around this? Potentially their transmutation through Scarecrow Dust could negate the respawns, but Chomper’s resisted transmutation like that before like from the Midas Tough Zombie, and even comparable to other plants who can just respawn through transmutation. Or at least, that’s what I thought at first, but you have to remember who it’s transmutating. In Mario RPG Scarecrow Dust works on any of the cast in that game including Mario, who has specifically resisted transmutation from the likes of Kamek before, meaning Plant’s natural transmutation is likely less resistable than Kamek’s. Kinda weird to think about, not gonna lie. Chomper also wouldn’t have an immunity to Plant’s sleep manipulation, but at that point it’s kind of delaying an inevitable respawn, but it gives enough time for Plant to run away which is considered a win con in certain VS scenarios. While Chomper has more specific powers meant for combat, Plant ultimately takes this with what their powers can end up doing. Powers and abilities go to the Piranha Plant.
Equipment & Support
Going into this I didn’t even really expect that both of these plants would have any sort of items to really pull from, but both have a lot, surprisingly. Especially since Piranha Plant is now in Mario Kart World, too. (Congrats little guy!) Plant’s Mario Kart items would likely give Chomper some trouble at first, mostly because of how crazy they can get. From the Blue Shell to the Bullet Bill, Plant has a lot to work with here. But of course, it’s all random and Plant couldn’t control it, which is its main issue. Also Dr. Mario World items but like. That doesn’t add much. Chomper on the other hand has a lot less of an item spread, but it’s more concrete and can directly just make them stronger like with the boosts. Their other items mostly involve summoning stuff, like from the Weeds and the potted plants. It turns this battle from a 1-on-1 into a whole one man vs an entire army fight. Perhaps Plant’s way around this could be to pull the Boo, being able to steal items and potentially steal one of Chomper’s boosts or support methods, however even then there’s only a chance that can happen. Plant doesn’t have control over what item they get in the first place, and even the invisibility of the Boo would be negated by Chomper’s enhanced senses. More on Chomper’s support though, bosses like the Royal Hypno-Flower could transmutate Plant pretty easily, with them only being able to get out via pulling Kamek from the Mario Kart item pool. But as said before, that instance is specific and relies on RNG and isn’t super viable. While Plant has a lot with the Mario Kart items, I think closing the gap with the support Chomper takes both of these categories overall. Equipment and support goes to the Chomper.
With Plant taking most of the categories here, and even having a way to negate respawns, Piranha Plant wins the 1-on-1, but perhaps things will change in the...
Army Scenario
Stats
This part should be the same as the 1-on-1. The Piranha Plants would be more powerful and durable thanks to harming and tanking hits from those stronger than them. However they both also scale to immeasurable characters, but not all the plants have Zone Speed here. Just the Fire Plant, which honestly I don’t think is enough to justify the entire plant army getting speed just because of one guy. The Piranha Plants take strength and durability and both teams tie in speed.
Powers & Abilities
Taking the notable variants into account here, Bitey, Chompzilla, and Chelsea don’t bring much to the table in terms of new things. Sure, Bitey is fast and Chompzilla can summon a TON of plants with her cards (we’ll get into that soon), that’s not really a showing of concrete abilities besides Chompzilla being able to generate more sun and stamina for the rest of the field. Where this differs from the composite scenario is that  only some Piranha Plant variants get the transmutation power, and that’s only three of them. Regular Plant, Chewy, and Megasmilax. I honestly don’t think that that’s enough to negate every single respawning Chomper, though, especially since Scarecrow Dust and Petal Blast are both RPG moves that require FP to be used, and are therefore limited. Beyond this, though, Chompers have also shown a greater ability at eating foes in general. Potted plants in 3D World can eat fuzzies really quickly, but that’s about it. Compare this to Super Chomper and PvZ 2 Chomper who both can eat multiple zombies at once without fail, and there’s specific upgrades tailored to the Chomper’s stamina on eating in general. The poison in their bodies even evolved to make the things they eat taste better, in other words, the Chomper is literally built to eat and digest things that it fights against while the Piranhas are much more of a jack-of-all-trades type of species in comparison. The edge in numbers that the Chompers would get here really helps them. Not to mention how Chompzilla can summon multiple cards that in turn have SO much versatility with what they can do, but that is more of a conversation for what support the Chompers have. But here, powers and abilities go to the Chompers.
Equipment & Support
With equipment, the Piranha Plants get a lot more versatility now with the Power Stars, since only the notable variants carry them. The amount of powers that the stars can possess can potentially turn this battle around, like duplicating other Piranhas and resurrecting those who’ve fallen, similar to the Chompers’ respawns. Even mini stars have been shown to just… Erase people from existence outright. Which the Chompers would have trouble countering. Comparing this to the boosts and Junkasaurus I guess, they’re much more limited compared to the Power Stars, I think through sheer utility Plant Gang takes this. And keep in mind I’m not considering Chompzilla’s cards to be equipment really. Equipment goes to the Piranha Plants.
Support is kind of a wash to who it goes to. Even with Plant Gang being stronger, and able to wipe out Chompers who can’t respawn, and likely a lot of the support too on their own, Chompzilla and ALL of the shooter variants of Chomper can summon anything they’d like onto the field. Potted plants, boss plants, weeds, solar cards, the list goes on. Cornucopia even allows Zilla to summon ANY plant from PvZ Heroes. Plants like Potted Powerhouse would essentially get to have infinitely expanding damage with their abilities, and Pineclone could literally turn every single member of the Plant Gang into another Pineclone. Comparatively, Petey and Mom Piranha can summon Dry Bones and Baby Plants, and that’s about it. Petey isn’t even really shown to have control over the Dry Bones summoning and kind of just something he does on accident when he gets hit. Speaking of Petey, though, there is one thing I’d like to talk about, and that’s his item stealing. Since Piranha Plants and Chompers match in speed, he could theoretically get the chance to steal Chompzilla’s cards and use them for himself in battle. Same goes for the pots and even the dirt mounds technically, all can be used by Petey if he steals them. Which essentially just turns the fight between Petey and Chompzilla into a game of PvZ Heroes which is very funny to me. But you have to remember it’s only Petey that can do this. Maybe Petea too? But he’s never shown to do that. There’s just too many Chompers to say that Plant Gang takes it just because of one ability that Petey has. Chompzilla would be more experienced with using the cards, plus, even if the Piranha Plants try to take Chompzilla down she can just absorb the damage with Soul Patch. Support goes to the Chompers.
So it looks like the Piranha Plant takes this in a one-on-one, but the Chompers win when it’s an all-out army fight, at least in my eyes. I totally thought that Plant would take this in both scenarios when we started to research the higher-end Mario scaling, since it was very, very high. But alas, I see this blog having two winners, which is kind of nice in a sense. Also Piranha Plant can eat real people so they’re probably outerversal.
Hedging our bets, Chomper showed growth but ended up being just a one-trick peony, cut at the stem by Piranha Plant’s budding versatility. Unbeleafably, Chomper does better in pears, and no, I’m not pollen your leg. The 1-on-1 winner is the Piranha Plant, and the army winner is the Chomper. You grow, girls.
AlfieMations

Well this was surely unexpected but oh my gosh it’s a good moment right now! Getting to work on a blog for a matchup that is not only as memey as this but also features two series I absolutely adore!
You’ve probably heard my name mentioned earlier in the verdict section and I was the one who did most of the research for Piranha Plant, but here I’m here to decide relatively fairly who should win the fight based on the information given with both scenarios at play.
1-on-1 Composite Scenario
Stats
Starting off with Power most ends of these characters vary wildly, there are things in both series reaching around Island, Planet to even Universal levels of power, however to determine who is stronger overall, we need to determine which series has the bigger cosmology original I know lol
Plant should scale to the Mario Cosmology at least the normal Universe, which can still be argued to anywhere from Uni+ - Multi+ through stuff like Matter Splatter Galaxy, various other dimensions, and of course the Dream Depot, while Plant unlikely scales to the full 5D Mario Cosmology due to weird shenanigans with the Chaos Heart it’s still more than enough to sadly Dwarf PVZ Cosmology which from what’s been covered in the blog already can be up to around Uni+, Maybe higher at Best. So Piranha Plant takes Attack Potency And Durability.
Speed though is a lot closer. If We’re going just quantiable in terms of speed its generally pretty close with a slight edge likely in favour of Plant, both of them being in the Quadrillion to Quintillion times FTL Range.
However, since both of these series have feats that could either Infinite or Immeasurable in like Mario Moving around in The Cutout, a place describe as a higher transcendent realm that is beyond time and space and Chomper scaling to various PvZ characters over its long history like the Party Characters, Party Citron in particular can so hard he tears the very fabric of time itself, which I have no idea how that works but hey that’s immeasurable.
So both Piranha Plant and Chomper Seems to be a Tie,
however technically due to Zone Speed while it’s limited in time and uses Piranha Plant could slow down time for a brief couple a seconds basically viewing the Chomper in slow motion for a couple seconds which would definitely be useful in dodging projectiles plus the meter to use zone speed doesn’t take that long to recharge, probably even shorter then stuff like Chomper’s Goop for that matter, so if you wanna include that I’d say Piranha Plant gets a slight edge in Speed.
Powers, Abilities and Resistances
Of course, both of these series are known for being all supernatural, and have a lot of magic elements to them, so you can expect both of these creatures to have some pretty crazy stuff. Across the different “standard” versions of them they have most of the same abilities, Fire, electricity, poison, ice, with one of the exceptions being the Ink from the Inky Piranha Plant, aside from that though the standard Chomper really only relies on its 3 main abilities, Goop, Spikeweed, and Burrowing. Goop is actually a pretty notable one here as it can disable your abilities, however it’s only for about 3 seconds though it does have only a 5 to 7 second cooldown, this can be useful but it won’t aid much in actually killing the Piranha Plant though it could be a good stall method especially from preventing Plant from using abilities, however Plant could likely use Zone Speed to see it coming and avoid it. Spikeweed might be troublesome as well but it’s really only a matter of it Plant accidentally walks into it and it won’t cause that much damage, then of course other variations of it like Vampweed to heal health is certainly useful but again is really just gonna delay the inevitable as unfortunate as it would seem.
Meanwhile Plant has some pretty interesting abilities, such as the ability to fly which could asking grant it a mobility edge as well as being able to avoid the Chomper’s projectiles more easily, it can potentially teleport maybe matching the Unicorn/Twilight Chomper’s Warp if you wanna include that here, it can grow and shrink in size another way to potentially avoid the Chomper’s attacks, and it also has its two main abilities from Mario RPG, being Pollen Nap, which puts you to sleep, and Scarecrow Dust, which turns you into a scarecrow, these are pretty useful ability that have generally more practical use in a fight like this and you’ll see why in the Hax/Wincons section.
So all around I’d personally say Piranha Plant takes Powers and Abilities.
Though to give the Chomper its credit I’d definitely had more Resistances the main things Plant can resist on its own would be Mind Control due to being one of Bowser’s minions has a strong dose of loyalty to their king that they can resist Mind Control from Fawful’s Mind Control Spray.
Chomper meanwhile resists a lot surprisingly, resist a lot, like Mind Control, Transmutation (Which “might” help it resist stuff like Scarecrow Dust See In Hax/Wincons Section), and thanks to it’s respawning mechanic, Death Manipulation, BFR and Existence Erasure.
So all around Chomper just resists a lot, man which could be useful when faced with the abilities that Piranha Plant has.
Equipment and Support
On their own they both don’t have too much stuff going on with equipment though they do have some important Mario/PvZ themed stuff.
Piranha Plant of course recently got into Mario Kart World, which means that they can have access to a lot of different items like the Green/Red or maybe even Blue Shells, Bananas, Bullet Bills, and even a power up that can Summon characters like Kamek who can do a bunch of magical stuff and Boo which can make him temporarily invulnerable and invisible while also stealing a random item, however it’s random whatever item he gets,
Chomper on the other hand doesn’t really have that issue. The main things a normal plant like him can do is summon other plants, like Potted Plants, Weeds, other PVZ Heroes with the Dirt Mounds and up to whole bosses with the boss chests, though the boss chests just like the Mario Kart items are also all random in what it gives you.
With these Chomper can have access to characters that can put up shields, heal you or even outright turn you into a goat, perhaps the most impressive summon in all of these batches is the Royal Hypno-Flower a Hypno Shroom version of the Sunflower Queen with the ability to hypnotise you and also turn you into a goat pretty much permanently unless you eat at most three magical poly leaves and in BFN if you don’t eat the poly leaves under 30 seconds.
This could be a literal death sentence for Plant if gotten, which while it is unlikely generally is still possible the main arguments that could be made against this is that Boo could potentially steal one of the Boss Chests Chomper has or if turned into a goat Kamek could maybe turn him back into a Piranha Plant, though it ultimately relies on luck…..
So overall I feel like this one is kind of tough to call though if I’d have to give my opinion, because you could say the chance of Chomper Getting a really good boss from boss chests or a just that he can just choose any heroes, weeds, or plants he wants some of which having pretty useful abilities while the Chomper’s best still rely on RNG, plus having access to the Junkasaurus which is a massively power and tanking robot mech, makes me think Chomper takes it.
Hax and Win Conditions
there is one thing that should definitely be kept in mind that’ll make it extremely hard for the Piranha Plant, and that’s the Chomper’s respawning, since the Chomper’s in the PvZ Shooters can respawn from almost anything because of the mechanics of Garden Warfare and Battle For Neighbourvile, HOWEVER! I do personally think however that the Piranha Plant has not one but possibly TWO ways to bypass the respawning. The first method is Transmutation, as pretty much any Piranha Plant in Super Mario RPG has access to a spell called Scarecrow Dust, which would you guess? Turns the opponent into a scarecrow now this argument might be a little questionable but while PvZ Characters can resist transmutation to an extent, because this spell can work on characters like Mario without any outside equipment, who himself can is able to resist transmutation from stuff like Kamek’s Magic Blast you could argue this form of transmutation has an extra layer to it and as such would work on the Chomper regardless of its inherent resistance to transmutation, though I admit this argument might be a little bit flimsy.
Though this one is much more reliable, that being that the Piranha Plant can just put the Chomper to sleep with Pollen Nap, now you might think this wouldn’t be an affective Win Condition since you’d likely think if used on the Chomper, it would eventually just wake up, but in most vs debates whenever a character is fighting another character if one of the characters cannot die, but the other character has an ability or something like this that can incapacitate the immortal character which is basically what putting someone to sleep is an equivalent of, would count as a win condition.
Though as for the Chomper’s side there’s actually not too much it has on its own that could pose a genuine danger to the Piranha Plant, though there are two things that kind of align into being the same thing that could potentially turn the tables in favour of it if the cards are played right, and that’s the Rose which can be summoned from the Dirt Mounds and The Royal Hypno-Flower which can be summoned from Boss Chests. While regular hypnosis would probably not work on the Piranha Plant since being a loyal minion of Bowser means they have enough will to resist mind control, there is one thing they could both do that could be argued as a wincon, just by using Goatify/Goat Purge, they can turn enemies into a goat, Royal Hypno-Flower even having a huge range affecting pretty much every Zombie on the map and unlike the Rose’s Goatify, doesn’t wear off after like a couple of seconds, in fact lasting virtually forever unless the Zombies eat some strange Magical Poly Leaves or whatever those Berry things from BFN are, in fact in BFN the reason it’s called Goat Purge is that if you don’t get rid of the Goat Curse within at least 30 seconds you die, which would be very effective as being transmuted into a goat would likely be something Piranha Plant couldn’t resist “on its own” why do I say that in quotation marks you ask? Well unless you say the only way the revert the Goat Purge curse is to eat the magical item or whatever, I think there’s a good case to be made that Piranha Plant can just use the Kamek Power Up he got due to being in Mario Kart World, to allow him to be transformed back into a normal Piranha Plant considering how even when your goatified you can still act on your own, eating the Poly Leaves being a tasked assigned to you, assuming all those faults go in that way and you say turning him back to normal would both reverse the goatification and remove the death timer, then what this basically means is that there’d no real way for the Chomper, even with all this support to beat the Piranha Plant, the summons that’d just be brute strength wouldn’t matter since Plant just tanks anything they throw at him due to being way too durable, healing summons won’t really matter that much since Plant can already one shot pretty much any of them, and Chomper’s the only one who can actually respawn. And while it will take a long time to take down an army that big, considering how it’s likely that there’d only be one of each original Plant, including the Bosses and Weeds and the fact it’s really a matter of one can one shot the others and the others can’t do anything to the Plant I think it's safe to say Piranha Plant would have a very good chance at winning.
Overall
In Spite of Chomper's Voracious appetite, unexpected surprises and unstoppability, I think the Piranha Plant’s overwhelming power, status inducing abilities and all around deadliness means the only one who ended up as a chump was Chomp.
So all around Piranha Plant wins the 1v1.
The Winner Is Piranha Plant
Army Scenario
Though here’s where things start to get more spicy! As with this we’re not gonna be talking about just a single Piranha Plant and a single Chomper, we’ll be talking about pretty much every species of Piranha Plant and Every Species of Chomper in a massive army war against each other.
Stats
Stats pretty much remain the same tbh the best scaling in PVZ Comes from Garden Warfare 2 which regular Chomper is already in so yeah.
Piranha Plant still takes stats.
Powers, Abilities and Resistances
Here’s where the differences start to show as we introduce completely new characters with their own gimmick and powers that can really shake up the competition, though to get a quick point out of the way, Chomper does still edge in terms of Resistances. The only real resistances Piranha Plants get is fire and electricity from the fact that Mom Piranha’s kids have a unique resistance to either element depending on what colour they are, but that’s not gonna matter much.
In terms of actual Abilities though is where things get interesting because remember the transmutation and sleep manipulation we said any Piranha Plant can have access to? Yeah, well Megasmilax has the same things only better, as it has a move known as Petal Blast which transmutes all of the opponents on the field into mushrooms while being a mushroom does heal you gradually it still leaves you pretty much immobile.
Not only that but Petey Piranha, the big dude himself has one very important ability that’s surprising common in the Mario power scaling meta, the ability to steal other people’s items, specifically inhaling so powerfully that he was able to rob the action command from Paper Mario to create Paper copies of him to use for himself, which if assumed this can let Petey suck away items which this seems to show then that would be extremely useful both for disarming the Chomper itself of its arsenal and summons but also something else for when we get to the Hax/Wincons.
That’s pretty much it for Plant right now though Chomper does also get some benefits from this army fight into adding new Plants, specifically how they could definitely see and interact with the Ghost Piranha, and more importantly now that 12 of them have that busted respawning mechanic which will only be a much bigger headache to deal with.
Though all around there’s not much in favour for both in terms of their abilities now it’s just in the heart of the cards.
So Piranha Plant still takes Powers and Abilities.
Equipment and Support
This one is gonna be huge for either side since they only gain one really important thing, but those things in particular could change the entire debate on their own. That being the Power Stars and Heroes Cards/Tricks/Environments.
With the Power Star, on their own, they really just do… a lot.
Summoning more Piranha Plants on the field, reviving any fallen allies, creating a 10 second timer that would likely kill nearly every Chomper assuming the Clock Item that increases the timer isn’t around, or even just erasing several of them from existence entirely!
The Power Stars are pretty busted, the only main problem is that there’s only a limited amount of them and their only really carried by two, maybe three plants, Dino Piranha/Fiery Dino Piranha, and Peewee Piranha, unless you wanna say them having rematches in Galaxy 1 and 2 means they can hold multiple of them, that’s only about 2 to maybe 3 Power Stars, which at that point kind of leads to the question of if a single Star can stay around after having multiple uses in the fight. And to that I would personally say yes, considering the fact that it’s been shown before that Power Star don’t just dissipate after being used once like most Mario Power Ups tend to do, the most blatant example being how in Mario 64 when you get a Power Star you carry it with you for the rest of the game, when you even have to unlock the seals on certain doors on that game with a certain number of Power Stars they don’t go away when used on the doors.
So I think due to this it’s very likely to say that even a single Power Star one of these could theoretically just continuously do stuff like kill a bunch of Chompers at the same time, rinse and repeat for a while.
As for the Chompers though they come packed with another special trump card that is set in stone with their new main leader, Chompzilla, as she had access to the PVZ Heroes Cards which allow her to do a multitude of different things, by summoning specific types of plants in their own she can do stuff like buffing Power and health, lowering enemy power, gaining more sun, giving her more health, hitting through enemy shields, even ways to instantly kill and transmute enemies. And with the Cornucopia, she can pretty much gain access to every card, not just ones from the Solar Class though it’s specifically random, in fact if enough of them are gathered up some combinations of Plants can lead to a seemingly endless exploit that could result in basically infinite damage for a single hit (wouldn’t matter anyway lol).
Though of course Chompzilla is the only one who can use these cards. But the best cards Chompzilla can get come from the Conjuring cards, which give a chance to summon a random Legendary Card. There’s a total of 9 Conjuring Cards which is useful in making the chances of getting the most useful Legendary Cards more likely.
Some of these cards give some pretty powerful effects, reflecting on their legendary status, the most useful ones of those varieties. But the most useful one of these is without question The Great Zucchini, which has the ability to turn every enemy on the field into a weak zombie which is likely the best wincon that the Chompers would have assuming it can affect every Piranha Plant on the field which I think is fair to say it is.
But there’s another factor that being The Bird Of Paradise, which can also be brought in from Conjuring Cards, and has the ability to summon any Super Card that is usually exclusive to each character, the most useful of which being Citron’s Peel Shield/Wall Knight’s Uncrackable which prevents anyone on the plant side from being hurt at all for a turn, and the Rose’s Goatify which unlike in Garden Warfare 2 turns a single target into a Goat permanently. So that just more stuff Plant Gang will have to worry about.
So overall, with all the factors pulled into just these two things I would say Chomper does still take support even more so intact just due to how much Chompzilla can summon with the cards.
Though when it comes to the potency of the equipment themselves, that’s something I’m not sure on, comparing the Power Stars to stuff like Tricks and Environments, I do think the Power Stars have more variety overall, though the problem is the certain Chompers can resist some of the biggest effects of them, like BFR, Existence Erasure and Death Manipulation. Meanwhile, the Piranha Plants really don’t have an answer to a lot of the best summons but we’ll get more into that in our very next section.
So overall I think just from the fact Piranha Plant would probably be more susceptible to Chomper’s arsenal then vice versa, I think the Chomper’s just barely take this category. Which even then is technically more reliant on luck then the Plant’s biggest trump cards.
Hax and Win Conditions
Now after sort of spreading this category around unintentionally in the last category, when it comes to who has the better Wincons, it’s hard to gather because all around I do think the effects of Chompzilla’s cards would be more potent against the Piranha Plants than vice versa but the main issue with that is that again, this technically does rely on chance while it isn’t really unlikely given how many conjuring cards there are, it’s still not a guaranteed thing, unlike stuff like Piranha Plants Transmutation and Sleep Manipulation which they have on their own, and just from the sheer number of Piranha Plants that can learn both Pollen Nap and Scarecrow Dust, as well as the fact that Megasmilax’s Petal Blast can affect multiple targets at once, with enough time you can say that the Plant Gang would be able to incapacitate nearly every single Plant on Chomper’s side though the main thing is The transmutation on Chompzilla’s side is proven to have a bigger range potentially being able to affect all the Piranha Plants on the field at the same time.
But there’s a pretty big factor in the Plant Gangs side that could potentially negate anything the Chompers can do with their summons and that’s Petey Piranha, no not his awesome presence, the fact that he can literally inhale items away from someone, there’s a very strong argument to be made that he can just inhale the cards away from Chompzilla, he wouldn’t be able to use them for himself since he doesn’t have any PVZ Pattern pended sun, but that’s still a very useful method of just disarming the Chompers of potentially big wincons, the main thing at that point is just how many could he take at once? Theoretically he could just keep on doing it as she pulls more cards, though if he isn’t able to steal multiple cards fast enough to cripple Chompzilla’s wincon options that’ll be a problem since she could just play a card down instantly with the transmutation effect and then that’d be game over and wouldn’t be something the Piranha Plants would prepare for it especially when you consider there’s still multiple cards Chompzilla can summon to be able to give her stuff like The Great Zucchini though if Petey can steal multiple cards at once that turns the tables drastically cause that would just limit the things the Chompers could do to actually end the fight, and then they’d just have to slowly whittle them down with their own abilities and also the nonsense of the Power Stars until they’re left with the ones that are vulnerable to sleep manipulation and transmutation, in fact what’s exactly to stop even just a regular Piranha Plant from just putting Chompzilla to sleep with Pollen Nap? It was shown earlier in the blog that the Plants can’t resist sleep manipulation and in fact have even been shown to be vulnerable to it from the Wizard Zombie in PVZ 2, the only way to awaken Plants from sleeping is through Coffee Beans which Chompzilla doesn’t possess or at least not any that can be naturally fed to a sleeping Plant, and at that point if Chompzilla is incapacitated what are the Chompers supposed to do? Since Chompzilla is really the one here who carries the Chomper Team through the Hax of the cards but she can’t use them if she’s asleep. Or heck even better just instantly negate her durability using Power Stars, since Chompzilla doesn’t have the respawning that the PVZ Shooter Chompers have, she would be vulnerable to stuff like Existence Erasure and all that.
Though this is still gonna be hard considering that Chompzilla could potentially move around all of this with some elements of stall, for example using the 2 Shield based Supers to block attacks from Plant Gang and stall for time perhaps until she can gain access to the Great Zucchini and then end the fight right there when its placed.
Honestly this segment has gone on for so long and it’s just such a brain twister (heh) to choose which win conditions I think are more likely though, ultimately I do have a conclusion to this, and that’s that with everything that’s been said I do think it would ultimately be more likely with RNG in the mix for the Piranha Plants to be able to win the fight through the simple exploit of incapacitating Chompzilla and getting her cards out of the occasional at least for a while which will give them a very good time to pick off each Plant she could’ve summoned in that time, while theoretically it would only take 2 lucky conjures to actually pull out the potential card she needs to win but that is still slightly less reliable then the wincons for the Plants which unlike with the Chompers would be consistently spread out across the entire squadron of them, and then you couple that with the fact that Petey could potentially steal cards off her and that fact most of the cards wouldn’t mean much against Plant Gang in the long run.
Ultimately while I think this category is insanely close and could legitimately go either way depending on circumstances, I do think Piranha Plants spread out Hax, overall more reliable counters, and easier then realise worthy exploits give them the win in this category.
Though Tactical Cuke absolutely comes in and solos both lol.
Overall
This battle was honestly a maze to go through to find the exit that was the verdict and I honestly think this matchup being the joke that it is having a super interesting debate that could legitimately go either way no matter what circumstances there is, though ultimate while the Chomper was a might plant hero that’d surely make Crazy Dave Proud of how his Plants changed the future of the world, The Piranha Plants’s Overwhelming stats, potently prime abilities, and botanically bashful variants, meaning that tonight there's only one snapping plant on our lawn and that one in particular grew greener.
I guess you can say even if everyone was rooting for both only one of them would grow to be a winner.

The Winner is Piranha Plant

Ruby

It’s a me a Ruby, I was shown this blog was being made by a friend of mine, who may or may not have worked on one of the thumbnails at the top. But originally I was nervous and doubted I could bring much to the table, but I hope my extreme rambling about PVZ heroes and the garden warfare series actually helped the discussion in some way. I’ve always loved this matchup as it's my second favourite mario matchup and my favourite one death battle hasn't done yet, so I’m really proud of what we made together, Though I was really just a researcher lol.
We’re gonna break down the verdict from the 1-on-1 composite and of course an army fight.

1-ON-1 COMPOSITE SCENARIO

Strength and durability

As previously elaborated we scaled Plant to much of what the typical mario cast is capable of performing which depending on the argument and discussion would range from Universal to multiversal, while mario does get potentially higher, it's easy to argue Plant shouldn’t scale to the highest tier stuff. While Chomper does have arguments that would put her at a similar tier, these are less consistent overall and much harder to prove, unlike Plants which are more consistent. And with 11-D Chomper being disproved, So Chomper definitely doesn't scale higher

The Physical strength and durability advantages go to Plant gang

Speed

Speed however becomes a lot more…interesting. Immeasurable speed for both due to Plant scaling to paper Mario and Mario being able to move in the cutout and of course Chomper compares to other party time Plants who can party so fast they go back in time. At first glance speed seems pretty evenly matched.

However this is where their abilities come into play and change things up drastically. Plants zone speed allows Plant to react and respond to threats and attacks far easier, This as it appears in mario tennis aces makes everything around Plant move in slow motion but is based on Plants energy and does need to be recharged after use. Plant also has a variety of items from Mario kart world like mushrooms and bullet bills that could give quick boosts of additional speed.

Chomper however also has her own selection of tools and abilities to affect the speed category. Chompers goop, super sticky goop and Yeti Chompers ice attacks can all slow down or immobilise targets. And with the hot rod upgrade and hot rod chomper capable of getting speed boosts after swallowing zombies to further Chompers speed. On the support side chomper can summon other ice plants capable of freezing and stopping plant as well as many types of Rose who can use time snare to slow plant down further.

While both have tools to change the speed stat, Chomper has a much more consistent and versatile selection of options, some of plants options are RNG based whereas Chomper has options like her upgrades which are simply always a part of her kit.

Chomper has a very slight speed advantage.

Power and abilities

Plant and chomper are once again pretty similarly matched with similar elemental abilities, fire, ice, electricity, poison, the standard lot. Movement abilities are pretty similar as both can burrow and move around underground at high speeds. While at first this may seem to be an evenly matched fight things shift when we get into their more versatile powers. Chompers resistances could nullify a large majority of Plants' major arsenal, And her goop would go even further lowering Plant’s speed and outright nullifying the Plants options. Her reviving and passive health regeneration would mean that she would be incredibly hard to permanently put down, as even if you do put her down she’s coming back a few seconds later.

Plant however has a fair few tools however which could just instantly win a fight. Plants access to sleep manipulation would have a similar effect to chompers goop, but whereas Chompers goop only affects abilities and still allows for some movement, Plants sleep manipulation could completely stop chomper from doing anything. Plants transmutation is also a win condition that could not only incapacitate chomper for an easy kill but also prevent further respawning, giving Plant a sure fire way of permanently putting chomper down.

While the close speed gap means both have good opportunities to get their abilities off, Plants increased durability and more immediately threatening and game ending abilities give Plant a major significant edge in powers and abilities.

Support and equipment

Starting off with support and equipment and this is In my opinion a pretty clear cut win. While Chomper doesn't really have equipment like plants does Plants equipment is highly highly limited to RNG. Thanks to Mario kart world Plant gets access to a wide spread of items, for quick bursts of speed, additional projectiles, also doctor mario is here…i guess? Kamek while A RNG unit can potentially summon additional enemies and momentarily transmutate chomper.

While Plant focuses on a large selection of Items and equipment, Chomper relies on support. Chomper does have one notable piece of equipment being Her boss chests which can summon a random boss from BFN. While these bosses are not made even. Bosses like bitter Dill can also goop Plant and can become immune to damage, Royal hypno flower can transmute Plant into a goat and even insta kill it. To further this Chomper can summons weeds and other plants that can provide healing, buffs, transmutation, stat lowering, additional firepower And a key numbers advantage

While Plant does have strong items they are dependent on RNG, while Chomper’s boss chests are also dependent on RNG, the plants and weeds she can create are not, as she can choose them to best fit her situation giving her much more versatility and strong options.

Chomper has a key advantage in support and equipment.

VERDICT

Chomper takes 2 advantages while Plant takes 3. Plant has a clear and massive stat gap in terms of strength and durability and a pretty clear edge in powers and abilities. While chomper only just takes speed and has a clear edge in support and equipment. Even at 2-3, It's 3 huge advantages vs 1 small and 1 big advantage.

If going by those results alone, Plant's chances already look strong. The important question is whether the Plant could bypass Chompers support and actually permanently kill Chomper. Plant’s sleep manipulation and Transmutation would easily disable any of Chompers support or Chomper herself and could permanently take Chomper down. Even with invincible bosses like Bitter dill and spooky Squash, their gimmicks of becoming unkillable kinda become irrelevant when put to sleep or tranmutated.

Royal Hypno flower does present a problem if its Goatify and insta kill goes off that it, Plant has no real counter but one could argue items like Kamek could temporarily prevent the effect, But while it is a viable win condition, Chomper would have to get lucky with its rolls for that to be the case.

Because of this I do think Plant takes this, even if chomper does have some win conditions, their inconsistent at best and Plants sheer advantage in terms of Power and durability means most engagements between the two are absolutely going in favor of the plant.

Army Scenario

Stats

We’ll cover all 3 stats again for the army scenario. I don't think much changes here, you could argue the already existing advantages simply are more apparent. With more allies on its side, the Plant has even more fighters with higher durability and strength while Chomper has more allies that could further the speed advantage and more allies that are overall faster because of that.

Because of this Plant still takes strength and durability while Chomper keeps the speed advantage.

Powers and abilities

At first glance this looks to be a repeat of the 1v1 scenario. With additional allies plant looks like its about to take another win here, plant’s allies grant even more abilities that give plant more advantages and edges, Chewy and Megasmilax, however these moves do require FP and Plant has a limited amount of FP, Unlike the 1v1 Plant isn't just dealing with one respawning chomper, but plenty of them, and those chomper can spawn in more plants.

While at first chomper might not look like its getting much either as Chelsea, Chompzilla and Bitey dont look like they add much to the equation but With many chomper variants evolving and having upgrades and abilities that let them digest and swallow things quicker giving Chomper a few more instakills. The real gamechanger here is Chompzilla, Chompzilla’s cards and the abilities Chomper has give chomper so many more win conditions and hax abilities to counter or match plants. While Petey can provide support by stealing those cards once Petey is out of the equation, Goatified or gooped, It's easy for chompzilla to lay the support down.

Due to the sheer amount of options chompzilla can provide that can counter Plant, chomper takes a major advantage in powers and abilities.

Equipment and Support

Thanks to the additional support Plant gets, Plant actually gained quite a few win conditions and additional tools that can overwhelm and give Chomper a serious run for her money. While Chomper’s funny Robot dinosaur does provide a big boost in stats, compared to the versatility and sheer power of the power stars puts Plant at an inherent advantage. From resurrection, duplication and erasure, Plant can now match Chompers revives, match her army in size or just outright skip the need for transmutation and just erase Chomper’s forces

Plant gets a very clear edge in equipment

Plant does have many varied and strong options, the Aforementioned petey could potential steal boss chests or cards to prevent summoning of Chomper’s more dangerous Options. Petey and momma Pirannah could potentially summon additional forces like dry bones to assist in combat but its very very clear Chomper just overwhelms the plant gang.

Any basic Chomper in Garden warfare or BFN is capable of summoning weeds, using boss chests or summoning additional allies like other chompers, Rose’s, Citrons and so on. Some bosses can also summon additional forces like The Royal Flower duo. Chompzilla…is Chompzilla. Even without Cornucopia she has so many tools and cards she can play, Captain cucumber can even summon additional strong legendary cards, then Cornucopia comes in and suddenly Chompzilla can play any card in the game.

While Plant does have additional tools to help put up a fight, Chomper once again takes the edge in Support.

Verdict

Taking a look at advantages and disadvantages again and the army fight makes this fight seem far closer. Plant once again takes 3 advantages in strength, durability and equipment, whereas chomper takes 3 in Speed, Powers and abilities and support.

In my opinion Chompzilla alone is what turns this debate from a close match with plant just barely taking the win to a fully fledged Chomper W

If we only go off cards Chompzilla herself can use naturally in her own class, Squash, Lawnmower, Three headed chomper, Tactical cuke and devourer all are insta kills that can instantly destroy plant, Tactical cuke is espeically dangerous because it targets all grounded plants, even Chompzilla’s own, Chompzilla however isn't affected.

Not only this but cards like Doubled mint which doubles its stats every turn, Potted powerhouse which gets stronger as plants get buffed and super phat beets which gets stronger per plant on the field could grow to incredibly strong degrees that could with enough time rival Plant. Cards like grape responsibility and Grape power could double stats of regular Chompers as well. Chompzilla’s AOE healing to keep Chompers alive as well as Turn Pepper M.D into a monster or set up an infinite damage combo with Heartichoke.

This is before we get into cards chompzilla can conjure. While these are dependent on RNG, Chompzilla has multiple ways of conjuring cards, Bird of Paradise could conjure powers which could make Chompzilla or her entire army immune to damage, A permanent Goatify could put a particularly dangerous threat out of commission, And Great zucchini and Pineclone could just Transmutate Plants entire army, giving the Plant a taste of its own medicine. Even if Petey steals these cards he lacks the sun required to play these cards.

Even with the sheer strength and Durability advantage, I think Chompzilla’s cards, Chompers Sheer numbers and abilities and slight speed advantage give it just the edge it needs to snatch a victory away from Plant in an Army scenario.
